If I am remembering correctly the revolutionary war sub was named the Turtle. It attacked a British war ship but did not succeed in sinking it but did survive. There was also a Sub used in the American civil war by the confederates. It did succeed in sinking its target but it’s crew ran out of oxygen and sunk afterwards.

On the topic of the Santa Claus question, let me show my Dutchness real quick. Sinterklaas is our version of the original Saint Nickolas, which we have alongside Santa Claus as Americans know him. Sinterklaas comes from Spain on a steam boat with a white horse and chimney sweeper helpers, on the 5th of December he leaves gifts and candy. Children put their shoes by the fireplace to receive these rewards and fill them with carrots and hay for the horse. There are also mini cookies we call pepernoten and naughty kids get shoved in a jute bag to be taken to Spain. Also, how on Earth do you get "klaus" out of a double A? Seriously, I've heard bad pronunciations, but this one leaves me more confused than anything.
