One trick I learned years ago on steam piping was the beat on the union with a hammer. But not so hard as you break it. It worked a lot of times. Keep the videos coming

My trick was heat the union nuts and flange bolts with torch and breakout the 4’ Rigid pipe wrenches for the unions, and socket for the bolts. Try to tighten the bolts after heating, sometimes they will break free.

Old timers trick. My grandpa grew up designing building and repairing steam boilers. Mainly steam locomotives. He Showed us when we were young Heat them up with the torch and cool them down with ice water as quickly as possible. It shocks even the most stubborn rusted threads. Works like a champ every time!

2 hammers hitting opposite sides of the fitting at the same time on the edges of the flats towards where you want it to spin.

Kroil, PB Blaster and a few others are fantastic at loosening those stubborn nuts and unions. After struggling with stuff like that....i apply never sieze to threads on as much as possible. Nobody else should have to struggle as the first guy to experience those pain in the rear nuts, bolts, and unions. I even started putting a very thin coating on blower shafts...not so much it'll slip off...but enough to help the next guy get it off.

slather everything in good pipe dope, except the ground sealing face of unions. be sure to use stuff glycol rated and pay attention to others types if alcohol is used in the system. some dopes are oil based, while others are alcohol based, use the wrong one and it will get eaten up.

Old Rusted Nuts was a country band I was in back in the 80's. Ratchetito was the name of a girl I met while eating tacos in Nantucket.

When working on piping you need a plan A, B, C and D. You're also braver than I am even trying to take the pump apart!

Dave, check that upper compressor for bubbles on the suction block! It was bubbling in the first video!

heat with torch and bang the union nuts with hammer or back of pipe wrench in all directions and move the pipe wrench to different positions around it. doing that will distort the nut different directions, helping break the rust bond. clearly I've dealt with plenty of rusted into a ball junk here in Ohio's "rusty salt-belt". I don't like "no" for an answer from things I'm trying to take apart. 🤣

Just replaced 2 old r12 units on a glycol chiller for a winery as they are grow bigger. We replaced it with a 65kw (220k/btu) inverter Gree water chiller. That unit was so quiet and had two circuits and had least 5 stages per circuit to control the temperature for the load. They have two other standard condensing units with press plate heat exchangers with clunky semis. You do not want to be around a winery on harvest season FYI..... forklifts have wine holders 🤣🤣🤣

one trick i learned is to hit the union in the direction it loosens while holding a sledge hammer on the opposite side.
@throttlebottle59062 жыл бұрын
yep, heat, beat and move wrench around to distort it all directions possible to help break it free. 🙂

I feel you Dave , when I see on my work schedule I have to change a pump out I know its gonna be a long day ! Have you checked out the Wera Joker self adjustable spanners by any chance , I find they can get you out of a pickle sometimes when there's not enough room for the ol' ratchet-socket .
