I loved how depth and accurate you went with this review!!! Agree with every thing mentioned!!! The biggest turn off for me is how the career is structured! I lost the interest to keep playing as there is no a clear goal at the end to make you feel engaged!

@@DylonND i feel with most if not all driving career modes feel grindy and not very rewarding at the end. I do like the direction of the f1 games with the story mode with all of the cut scenes and stuff. I want the engagement and storylines of a good fps shooter type of career mode rather than the tasteless race after race with similar vehicles, tracks, weather conditions, and length combos to make the length of the career as long as possible without much work. a good story mode takes a ton of work to even make a story take like 15-20 hours to complete, but that is where multiplayer comes in, to fill in the rest of the time that you have with the game. Maybe have a story mode and a generic career mode to make the engagement good while also making offline play a reality for a couple of hundred hours of pretty tasteless racing (dont get me wrong, i love a good grindy campaign, but also have a story mode). Then you can have multiplayer take the rest of the hundreds of hours that a really dedicated player would want to put into their games. This would be structuring it kind of like an fps shooter, but look how well that format is working for them. I sometimes buy a game just to play the 10-15 hour campaign because it is a really good story with twists and turns as well as a great sense of accomplishment when you get it done.

Solid, detailed review, thanks. I agree, the other riders aggressively crash into the player and just keep going when the chance is there, and vice versa. For Ride 5, in addition to all of the requested fixes and features, I'd really like to ride these bikes on an open map landscape with a day/night cycle offline or online choice. I've got a bit of a problem with the dlc packs often consisted of bikes that already were in Ride 3. Removing content from a previous entry, only for it to appear later as paid dlc doesn't sit right with me at all. And then there's the dlc bikes themselves: I genuinely can't wrap my head around the thought process that goes into deciding which bikes are to be added to the game. I mean why do they add the R1250R instead of a S1000R which is BMW's actual super naked? Why have they added the R1250RS, a somewhat heavy sportstourer, when there are no other bikes of this type? Now that they've gone through the trouble of getting the new MT-09 into the game, where is the Z900 (one of the best selling bikes in its class in Europe),the Duke 890 or the new Ducati Monster? They've put the new MT-07 in the game, but literally none of its real life competitors are in the game, so what exactly are we supposed to do with it? Sorry for the rant, but Milestone really has a GT thing going where they've put a ton of borderline duplicates in the game (especially ZX-10s and R1s) instead of something a bit more unique which could have added to the variety.
@DylonND3 жыл бұрын

I stumbled on this video and thought "Okay, cool, now I have a good idea about Ride 4. Okay, now I'm gonna go to this guy's playlists and find his exhaustive reviews of the other ones like TT Isle of Man 2, Rims, MotoGP21, etc." But I was disappointed to discover you don't have any reviews of any of the other motorcycle sims. @@DylonND motogp19 is much better than ride3 for control, feel, physics. So might be worth it for you to check out their gp games. I haven't bought ride4 yet, i was all excited after checking out videos recently of the realistic pov cam, until i noticed it's just a replay cam. So stil same silly fairing views as in 3 with the bike swinging left and right under you in the opposite side that you're turning instead of your viewpoint moving closer to the inside of the road curve itself. Which makes it impossible to follow a line, except in 3rd person. So now i learn from your video that the physics were good sim wise at launch and now not. Milestone have bad people in charge of design decisions seems. Is ride4 steering control smoother than 3? In motogp19 you can so nicely control your bike, and the fun challenge comes from pushing to the limit. Ride 3 sensitivity makes it unnecessarily hard to just point where you want, even if the physics are easier. Edit: on your video with new updated physics, the rear still looks like it's loosing traction at least, is it just visual or do you have to control it to not lose it?
@DylonND3 жыл бұрын
@@jacquesjtheripper5922 Yeah, even with the new physics, assists on zero like TCS on the high horsepower bikes you can still loose the rear quite a lot, the solution is dragging your rear brake everywhere you go, out of corners etc, and when you go on a straight if you bike is wheelie happy and anti wheelie is low or off you also need to drag the rear brake to keep it from going bars over. Overall I would say I can't go back to Ride 3 because of how well Ride 4 feels planting the bikes into corners and using camber, even with the updated physics. It's just sad because launch physics were punishing, but absolutely thrilling to master, and you truly felt on the edge. Now it feels much to safe, with hints of that old feeling once in awhile.
@jacquesjtheripper59223 жыл бұрын
@@DylonND i guess they are more lively? I noticed in ride3, the older powerful bikes do power oversteer and can lose it low side. The more modern race bikes seem to have tcs even if i set it to 0. Guessing it only affects the in game aids, not the default real bike aids.

Yeh so listen, I half-heartedly clicked on your review…and absolutely loved it. I wasn’t expecting much but I got to say, this is the best review yet of Ride 4. And I’ve watched a few. I’ve been on the fence for so long and you tipped me over into buying the Special Edition on PS5. Vid was so well done in so many ways: balance of the games pros alongside your constructive criticism, real thorough and thought out perspective on design flaws, mix of great gaming footage alongside amusing glitches, and most importantly…the memes (it was entertaining!) So on the balance of everything, and considering all your points, I took the plunge knowing what I was getting into (picked it up on special). So far, really enjoying it. Only it’s a shame that some of the issues STILL haven’t been addressed by Milestone ~6 months after you posted your review (some have but I had hoped for more.) Why are all their games released unfinished or underdeveloped (I also own MotoGP ‘19 and MXGP20)? Otherwise, ride safe mate.

I thought then and still do now. Why does no one make a Motorcycle Joystick? Like a set of handle bars grips throttle brake levers. There is a base of fan users for this. Do I not know of a product being used now? Do most use a Game Pad now? I have some really nice high end Flight sim gear you get way better precision control. I think it is a shame this area has not developed for a Moto Sim Base as big as it looks like it is. I hope something good comes this way in the future. Wonderful Review Thank You

20:40 yes I do feel the Rewind feature because the endurance mode, I just have to tell my self to ignore playing it all together!. And that wobble effect is annoying but I can see I rather have it then just crash with out showing that beware warning 24:20. I just wish you went back to Ride 2 Riding control Physics because that's still worth mentioning compared to Ride 4 or even Ride 3. If you find time make a video comparing Riding assists off for Ride 2 & Ride 4 just like you done here 25:54 please!. I'm sorry I know this is a year old now and you might not want to now.

The ongoing sale on PS4 this month marks both versions down by 40% ($29.99 and $47.99 respectively). I suggest that everyone waits at least until there is a 65% ($17.5 and $28 respectively) discount in a given sale when the prices are this high.

Just picked up this game for PS5 on sale for $19.99. I’ve never played a Ride game before, and it was an uphill battle to get used to. But a solid few hour crash course, no assists and high difficulty, and I’m getting the hang of it. As a long time fan of Gran Turismo, I actually really like the licensing stuff in Ride 4. My only complaint, it would be nice if they let you play through ALL the licenses up front straight away if you want.

@DylonND3 жыл бұрын
Six views in total (two outside) and the rest are variations of the first person cam, but they are locked to the bike. You can see me cycle through some of them at the start of the second critique part. The best first person view is only in replay which your camera moves with the rider as shown in the video.

Personally, I still think they should make Easy, easy. Not everyone wants a challenge. Sure, let people who want a challenge have their challenge but make easy actually easy. You're just pushing away a large majority of players simply because they don't want the crazy skill ceiling you're pushing. All you have to do is make Easy restrict the Ai's overall top speed. That doesn't ruin anyone's game on higher difficulties. Then they removed a metric ton of bikes so if feels like half a game compared to Ride 3s list. As a casual, Ride 3 is better to me. It was actually fun. This just isnt
@DylonND3 жыл бұрын
Yep, all rides AI's have been really darn hard from the start, cause they carry way to much corner speed as well.
@Toshinisei3 жыл бұрын
Agreed. I too consider myself a casual for motorcycle racing games and I enjoyed Ride 2 a lot. I've been playing R3 and I already consider it difficult, even on the easiest setting, especially for time attacks. I have to give them so many tries that it's the mode I spend my playtime the most by far, and that really takes a lot of the fun in playing altogether. I've been interested in Ride 4 ever since I've heard it was under development and I still haven't got it because of most of the problems mentioned in this review (which was great btw). The game looks great but I guess I'll just have to wait for Ride 5 for now.
@ninegatesofale18983 жыл бұрын
@@Toshinisei interesting. I find Ride 3 to be a cakewalk. Love the game. I'd avoid Ride 4 if you find 3 to be hard. I can barely play 4, as it's on another level of difficult, entirely. Along with the cut bike content compared to 3, it's a huge step backwards. Studios are starting to listen to the minority players who want realism and difficulty increases and completely ignore the majority of their player base that just want fun games that don't abuse you for being a casual. Not every game has to be brutally hard. And again, Im all for really hard difficulty options as long as you add super easy "easy" options. I've played games where Easy Mode felt like a pro Street Fighter tournament against the world's best players. That's not "easy"....thats those extra hard modes beyond "hard". Easy just doesn't the same thing anymore and that's disappointing.
@DylonND3 жыл бұрын
@@Toshinisei yeah, it still doesn't have that play-ability that tourist trophy on the ps2 had.
@Toshinisei3 жыл бұрын
@@ninegatesofale1898 Agreed. Studios could broaden difficulty levels so that both casual and hard core players be contemplated and have a good experience. They probably got a considerable amount of flak for the unbalanced AI, so maybe for the next games they'll polish it some more.

Hmm, I'd say it does feel like ride 2 because you feel planted in the corners - but 4 has the most rear wheel chatter, flex, etc of all the games, which makes it really stand out.

Incredible review and I agree with pretty much everything you said, purchased the game last week for xbox one. The last motorbike racing game I had was Riding Spirits 2 for PS2 about 16 years ago! First 2-3 hours were spent mostly very frustrated and regretting the purchase I just couldn't get on with it! Everything felt lazy and the licenses were very frustrating. I am probably about 10 hours in now and absolutely loving it. I get a huge sense of achievement getting a gold on a time trial course when you cannot rewind etc. Shame I never got to try it with the previous physics as I prefer to turn all assists off (also brakes are better without ABS etc if you can 'feel' what is going on). I did find the initial turn in of most bikes quite lazy but I find removing all front end preload on the front forks and adding a few clicks on the shock really lives things up and allows the bikes to get more 'out of shape' and twitch coming out of corners rather than being very stable... makes the 1000cc+ bikes a bit of a handful! Great review, thanks again.
@DylonND3 жыл бұрын
Thank you, sounds like you've got some bike experience! I adjust the preload to be as twitchy as possible and stiffen all shocks to maximum values, forgot to mention that in the review! If you get the chance to play a downgraded copy on the PC with the physics, man it was fun.

The thing that pisses me off more than anything is that I'm one trophy away from Platinum and you'd guess right if you assume that was endurance racing licence. Well as soon as you choose an endurance race all curbs turn into exploding kittens. You just come near one and you're off. It's completely bonkers and ruined things for me a lot
@DylonND3 жыл бұрын
Yep, I think they added an off track setting? Maybe turning that on would help with that, but sometimes the curb eats you lol. I stayed waaay off them for the final test.

If they could take the physics from TT and put all the bikes and tracks from ride 4 youd have the ultimate bike game.

More for its sense of speed than true to life physics i think , its the first game to give me a little taste of that real life "oh shit" youve overcooked the corner feeling and cause a slight heart beat stutter lol. @DylonND3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, some on steam feel like it's even more arcade feeling - but I haven't noticed much of a difference since the big patch. I forgot to add that tuning part to my review - but basically for all bikes: Front Preload 0 (-10) Rear Preload +10 Then for Spring, Front, and Rear Shock +10 (maxed) on all settings, unless on rare occasion the track is too bumpy like the Nurburgring then I just keep those on (+5) default settings. That way I can get max lean angle and max twitch most of the time. As for transmission the key is to go to the final ratio and adjust it to 0 (-10) and if the bike is maxing out on the straights just adjust that sixth gear to be longer (move it from +5 to +10) - you can also make the first gear a little longer if the bike is wheeling too much at the start, but anti wheelie is better for that. Finally with calibrations, set them to aggressive once you get comfortable with the game and don't look back.
