Chi Adichie is very well organised in her mind and presentation. She is the epitome of human possibility and doing what one loves best. She is naturally motivated to read and write about human issues. Among the Luo of Kenya we have similar women like Grace Ogot, Margaret Ogolla and Marjorie Oludhe...Great power of the intellect!

As a woman struggling with low self-worth, with ancestors who immigrated from Asia to South America and then two generations ago to Europe, identity has become a big question mark for me. But this speech has both inspired and comforted me. I will try to read more stories from different places and people. Maybe recognizing certain flaws and strengths, hopes and despairs in others will contribute to finding and forming more of my Self. And help me stop holding myself back, so I can play my role in making this world a little better like I know I can, too. Thank you for the hope I feel right now.

I think the most important thing in this world is Life. Understanding your past gives you a sight of where you are coming from but should not be a weight for you to move forward. Their immigration should in no case bother you to live your life.

@@nbessurvivor4301 Thanks for your response. It is of course more complex than fits into one comment. For me, everything is connected. Some connections within me, like the cultural heritage from my ancestors, seem weaker but it is up to me to discover and remake those connections. I've just always struggled with my sense of self and identity but I've accepted that. I definitely am not blaming my ancestors for making those choices to better their lives because they obviously ensured my life started in a better place as well. What this video inspired me to realize is that I might take more interest in other people than I have done until now. Being an introvert it'll be challenging but surely worth it : ) And ultimately I think that, the more you understand who you are, the better you are able to send out love and energy into the world🙏

Learning about the world through the insightful accounts of others is such an enlightening experience. Now here I am endeavouring to “never admire quietly”…I believe Chimamanda is blessed with the gift of storytelling. From listening to the words she shared, my mind travelled along neural pathways which her words created. I am eager to read her books for an even greater experience.

So beautifully said... Once we all understand that we are invisible souls and not bodies - souls that have the same basic qualities ( peace, love, joy and wisdom...) and the same basic needs - to be respected, valued, understood and loved... then we can move forward on equal footing, and will together energise and enrich this tired world...

When I was a kid I read the word "Milwaukee" in a book and thought it the most fantastical place on earth. I imagined it a pure paradise. The word itself was pure poetry to me, it rang in my head day and night, I don't remember how old I was, but I remember I had stolen that book while in primary school, so perhaps around 7 to 9- I went to secondary school at 10. Eventually with the rise of the internet in my teen years I came across the Jeffrey Dahmer story while browsing online and found out all that horror had happened in my paradisical Milwaukee. That was when Milwaukee lost that great childish glamor for me. 🙂

Your insight and foresight of things is so very aspiring. I thank mother Africa for the confidence the instill in their people. I look at some of the African movies sometimes and I can see the confidence that people exudes. I too was in culture shock when I first came here from Jamaica and it has been my religious beliefs that kept me together in a culture where people were programmed to believe they are a minority and are therefore if less importance. I never could let that in.
