The Lava Lion reminds me of a Baku - a Japanese chimera that has the head of an elephant, the mane of a lion, the body of a tiger, and the tail of an ox. According to Japanese myth, the Baku comes out to devour people's nightmares similar to a dream catcher from Native American cultures.

so you play as an alien creature that goes around destroying the entire ecosystem, and once your done with the ecosystem you destroy a nuclear reactor, and when people try to escape in a space shuttle you destroy that aswell? thats pretty rad if you ask me

A particularly brutal detail they added for the shuttle boss is that once you blow it up, for a few moments, you can see humans falling from it. Yikes!

A shame this game was never released into the arcades. It looks like alot of fun and very original in concept. Hopefully one day, HAMSTER will emulate this game and release it onto home consoles.

And I actually got to play and complete this game emulated on my uncle's arcade cabinet. It's a really fun game with fast-paced action and originality. Though it's a pity, it's never released on home consoles. At least it is playable physically at The Galloping Ghosts Arcade in Chicago, where a prototype cabinet is built.

At first I thought it was a prehistoric game, control a creature before the age of the dinosaurs etc. I kinda assumed that it may have been the premeisis, till the more outrageous designs came in and then seeing a city and space shuttle, and that there's some kind of alien ecosystem parasite (eaters) So much for my earlier theory!

There have been plenty of irredeemable protagonists like Alex Mercer and Kratos but nothing comes close to this. You're The Thing alien on steroids. Its a type of storytelling only Video games can get away with, no one will watch a movie or a TV show where the protagonist is an eldrich abomination that brings an end to all life in existence. Even Godzilla has feelings, this thing is evil incarnate.

You seriously played this game without the power up mechanics?? That's some absurd gaming dude. Just the thinking makes me feel the creeps. Oh, BTW, if all of you who didn't play this try it on emulator, I suggest you to take a breath about the title: Why is a chimera? Well, if you aren't one in the beginning, you just make yourself one. Thats were the jaw launching comes in. Whenever it hits an enemy, it deals damage and, the most important part, takes ADN from the prey. Depending on prey, you have an upgrade. Some gives you a scale armor, other makes you a porcupine launching tracking needles, others just heal you. And also, there is like a 2 slot memory for the upgrades, so, if you know where and when pick some upgrades in the right order... You can unlock a unique form. There are just 2 or 3 of these ones, so they are kind of OP. Also, if you hold the shoot button, you charge the bar around the HP, and make a "super" that deals screen damage to everything... In most cases. Why? Because the transformations. Some of them, be it normal or combined, have a unique super attack, depending which form you have. It's a pretty fun game when you know how to play it. Also, if you play with a homie, in 2 player mode you can have some laughs and spice assured. Just the coincidental (or not😂) steals of ADN to mess a transformation and probably making him evolve to the "bad transformation" (yes, there is one. Search for it playing, you will notice it the moment you read the transformation's name)

The concept looks pretty interesting. But I am confused by the large size of the player sprite, in shoot'em up it usually causes big problems. Also the boss theme sounds very simple and obsessive, after two listening laps the song stuck in my head a lot.
