The seed is pimento seed and the “stick” is the stem from the thyme. The leaves came off of the stem while cooking and that is what was left. A lot of Jamaicans will just put all of the thyme in with the stem and leaves and let it cook.

@dawn84873 жыл бұрын
Ackee is a fruit that grows on a tree. It has to be cleaned and cooked properly. Some parts of it is actually poisonous. It is amazing- not usually eaten with rice though. It is best with fried dumplings or bammy or festivals or boiled green bananas. I had some for breakfast this morning! The ackee is mixed with salted cod fish that is boiled and flaked and mixed it with the ackee. The drink is supposed to be mimiking a very sweet champagne flavour.

The thing that reminded you of the wire is whole Thyme. The leaves fall off of the twig during cooking. The round dark ball is whole Allspice. Also, Jamaican rice & peas tastes so good because it’s cooked with coconut milk, thyme, Allspice, and a lil ginger. Ackee is a Jamaican fruit. But, it’s cooked with salt fish (dried salted cod fish) as a savory dish. And yes it’s the national dish of Jamaica.

That stalk is thyme which is a seasoning. That black seed is also a seasoning...whole all spice. Most people do not eat the all spice. Ackee is a fruit. You should try other Jamaican sodas such as cream doda, pineapple, ginger beer with pineapple, ting which is a grapefruit soda. Paula the owner at Wijamin also makes good fry chicken with sauce, brown stew fish and curry goat.

Kola Champagne was my favourite growing up. They only do the glass bottles for export now and believe me, it tastes better in the glass bottle than it does in plastic. I didn't even know D&G still did glass bottles until one of my US trips when I saw the soda in Walmart. I am glad to see people from different cultures enjoying our food. I always wanted to try Korean food but there are no Korean restaurants here but you can get Kimchi, Gochugang (hope I spelt that correctly) and other Korean snacks at an Asian supermarket in Kingston.
