Love it. So much better with original features being opened up & put on display. Am doing this to my little terraced cottage fireplaces. Both were covered up behind a boring plain 'wall'. Couldn't wait to get my sledgehammer to it & open everything up again! 😃

Hey, I've been watching this as I'm taking on a similar project at my house. We have a lintel underneath the arch of the chimney breast but horizontally. I'm a bit unsure whether it can be removed or not would you be able to help with this?

Hi Stu, our fireplace has arch and then a couple of lines of brickwork underneath to flatten it off - but we’d prefer the arch. How do we know it’s safe to remove the two bottom lines without the whole thing caving in? Thanks!

A VICTORIAN cooking range must have been in there at the beginning of the house's history. At around 1930 they must have added a tiled fireplace in.

Come do mine man I'm only up the road in Newcastle! Really want to attempt this myself! Do you think I could or do you think the wall/house will fall down on me and kill is?

Brilliant channel. Just about to take up bricklaying at college. Any advice? Is the money good, work regular and how is it looking for bricklayers in the future? Cheers

I can tell you from my experiance that money is great. You just have to be efficient and good at what you do.

the money is good if you fast efficient and the job runs perfect ie materials being there and mortar on time (never happens) i would say that bricklaying is bad for your health over time (noise pollution every day) back and knee trouble when your older, thats why im not on site all the time just do the odd job.

As long as the chimney is not blocked by bricks further up the flue. If so you.ll have to take the lot apart! People are very selfish my boyfriend has a home built in 1938 beautifull chimneys msntle and fireplaces but the semi next door decided to knock out their chimney breasts (without notificatoon to him or getting planning permisdion) we ended up with a blocked chimney no smoke would go up it. Very bad Had to take the lot apart. I.m getting ideas of how to rebuild the lot.
