Viewing the victim as "the other" or "the enemy" is certainly a prime factor. However, I think this guy underestimates the pure sadistic tendencies of regular people, in particular women. It's not all about group dynamics, and not all about testosterone. A lot of women do like to watch gruesome videos and documentaries about serial killers.

Its weird concept, I didn't like part of his awnser about how males don't seem to think about the baby outcome when it comes to sex. I would say that's wrong, most animals don't have sex for feeling they don't get "enjoyment" so to speak they do it for the purpose procreating. Monkeys are extremely social so it strikes me as odd that wouldn't have a concept of death, they most know when they kill another chimp it's gone. Back to lex's question I think it was just worded bad. I would have asked is their violence more motivated by their social structure (is the act's seen as violent serve the purpose of themselves furthering their social status ) or is their violence resource optimization based purely just serving the purpose of keeping the monkeys being monkeys.

@@jonathanguitreau629 biological life would most likely evolve/create non biomechanicaly life using (AI) , so if something does show up odds are it will be some kind of AI created by another civilization. When it comes to long distant space travel we will have a hard time, wether it's dealing with G forces or high energy particles. There is some things in space that you would need a preposterous amount of shielding for, I think (quasars or exploding stars) I'm not an expert on it. I can just see it being to costly being money or resources. Much easier to send out a AI probe. So biological life would be found in smaller local groups. Ofcourse the distance between one civilization group and another would be great. Also keep in mind everyone has to play by the restraints of our universes physics. Endless there's something we are missing. A biological life traveling huge distances to planets would need a massive ship. Kind of goes with my point. If we are being observed in stealth it's most likely by small mechanical probes/ AI life.
