Wow kudos to China. Our country could never even think of doing such projects. They are way to busy on constructing statues & protecting cows.

I am curious to know more about it. This could be an innovative idea esp for countries in the tropical region. Even with conventional wisdom there r far better scope for improvement in conditions both in urban settings and interiors. But the thing lacking is master plan, implementation and resources!

The porous bricks are absolutely genius and should be used for every road, pavement, sidewalks, etc. But greening up cities is also very important and good and also makes it prettier, so that's a HUGE step in the right direction too

This is clearly someone's attempt at humour. The capacity of a such a system is limited to dealing with normal non flood conditions. In a real flood situation these expensive gimmicks will contribute nothing and are likely to be washed away, contributing to the clean up mess.

Its good that the pavement designs are water absorbent. It anticipates the waters and absorbs it as well in order to prevent damages in infrastructure and roads.

This was a wonderful concept but it is actually engineeringly floor and it has not achieved what it was intended to instead created more problems and did not serve any solution to China's flood problem regions where this technology was apply even got the worst outcome in the national flooding incidents of China.

Google Hebi City flooding 2020 and there are zero reports of flooding over there. Hebi City had no serious flooding in 2020 unlike the other Chinese cities so it's successful. xD bY 2030, 80 percent of China's cities will become sponge cities

Well, considering the torrential rain with 200mm precipitation in just an hour. It is never seen before. Even 200mm precipitation in a day is already worse enough, but in an hour? I guess it worked but not enough

Yes because a project that started 2 years ago will stop a development of decades of urban planning in the vicinity of the city. This will take 15-20 years before most cities have enough sponge city development completed to actually stop those huge floods from happening.

Lol, it's only been 2 years. It's still being rolled out to all cities but given the recent flooding, the gov see the floods as an opportunity to solve china's water crisis.
