No country is working harder and faster in the microchip industry than China! Chinese scientists recently produced a new ACCEL microchip that uses light instead of electric current and is 3000 times faster than Nvidia's A100 chip! Chinese scientists are also working hard to break the next barrier and produce 5 nanometer chips! The semiconductor industry is heating up! Let's talk about it all in today's video.

Something US cannot ban is knowledge innovation hardwork and skills.
@George123-bv7xq

The U.S. cannot ban someone else in knowledge, innovation, hard work and skills BUT they have certainly managed to ban THEMSELVES (declining education standards, below living standards wages, hiring workers from 3rd world countries to do manual labor work that their own young people refuse to do because "it sounds like too much work", discouraging the young from seeking technical trades profession and look for cushy office work instead, farming out production to other countries because of low cost in production labor and so on. There was once, in the 1940s - 1970s when Americans placed their shoulders to the wheel and worked real hard but along the way, they began to look for the "easier way out" as they began farming out production to Japan, South Korea and Taiwan. In the 1980s, the opening of China offered them an incredibly huge opportunity that surpassed anything they have in South Korea, Japan and Taiwan and they leapt into it without much consideration. It gave the U.S. a long sustained period of low inflation, a huge range of products that was only dreamt of in the past and at affordable prices and it saved the U.S. economy in the Global Financial Crises. However, all of those benefits came at a price - and that price was the retention of the U.S. own sovereign ability to produce and manufacture goods and services for the global market. Any woes the U.S. has had and is still having, are all self-inflicted and it doesn't want it to end even though the people are getting sick and tired and exhausted to the point of exploding in anger because the self-inflicted wounds are all down to corporate greed and shares in Wall Street and cannot be slowed down and stopped as they are the corner stones of Capitalism, the spul blood of U.S. Democracy.

Some countries will lack the resources in materials and human brains. China, it will appear, isn't any of them. It has the land mass, the raw materials, a long and proud history, a large population of well educated people who are fully capable of innovating and inventing stuff as we have seen throughout its 5,000 year old civilization. One has to also remember that MOST of what the U.S. invented, was done by foreigners who migrated to the U.S., and/or inventions that were actually stolen or bought/taken over wholesale by the U,S. using the power of the dollar.

A Space Station is not hard to build compared to the unseen microscopic world of controlling the flow of electrons in a microchip where distances are measured in nanometers - thinner than a human hair and even smaller than that. What a Space Station requires are just the huge rockets to send parts needed up there to low-earth orbit - all big physical stuff and China has a long history of making big physical stuff. Microelectronics is a little bit different but not insurmountable. All that is needed are the right tools to manipulate the electrons around - and tooling is one area that China is learning to master. For example, their ability to make breakthroughs in Materials Science in the manufacturing of high-speed jet engine turbine single-crystal fan blades able to withstand the insanely high temperatures and physical stresses inside a jet engine. This was something that the West had previously doubted very much that China will be able to produce and have to always depend upon Russia for their engines. I am more impressed by their ability in this than in their Space Station even though it is no mean feat as well.

Citing examples of a weird range of mostly 3rd world countries (apart from Germany) that has little resources - economic finances and engineering skills well as a lack of national drive - to be able to build a Space Station is illogical and insipidly stupid as a counter point argument. Thanks Cyrus, This parallels my views about China's prowess and progress in semiconductor development among other technologies. As an ABC, I see the US politicians including Biden as underestimating Chinese ingenuity and single-mindedness (especially in the face of adversity and good old fashioned racism). My father who was a Prof of CompSci predicted (based on interactions with his many foreign Chinese students) that one day (especially in view of its overwhelming numbers chosing to study STEM majors) that China would technologically surpass the US. That was 40 years ago. "Fastfoward" today, that possibility is rapidly becoming a reality. In the meantime, the US has accelerated killing America's semiconductor industry (AKA "goose that lays the golden eggs") through its prohibition of high end chips to China and creating an even more formidable competitor.

I read about the practical use of light in computer processors when I was going to university back in the mid 1990s. All of this was just theoretical stuff. The argument was using light instead of electrons, because light moves much faster than electrons. Fiber optics is using light to transfer data across vast distances. Before we had fiber optic cables, we had copper cables which transfers electrons, and this has a lot less bandwidth and has more signal loss when transferring data long distances. Photonic chips use light instead of electronics which is much faster, and uses less electricity. It also generates less heat. If China can produce such a chip, it would be groundbreaking.
@George123-bv7xq
@George123-bv7xq 3 ай бұрын
Over a short distance and using extremely low resistance oxygen free pure copper cabling, both electrons in the electrical wire and light photons through the air travel at the same speeds. However, copper wires inevitably meet up with internal resistances caused by impurities as well as magnetic induction over long distances and invariably slows down (it's the resistance in the cabling that causes heat and so, heat is a function of resistance and not the other way round). Light photons can also meet up with resistance (air layer densities) but this is so tiny to be almost negligible over the same distance as the copper cable.

What a lot of westerners do not understand is that China might lag behind traditional semiconductors, they are the leaders in photonic chips. Accel is not only a combination of analog and photonics, it is designed especially for AI acceleration. Most commercial chips are designed to be multi-functional, like the CPU are design to do many different kinds of stuff but does it at an acceptable rate. Even GPUs, which are designed for graphics acceleration are still designed around doing multiple types of graphics acceleration like drawing, ray tracing, polygon generation etc. Therefore, most chips are not optimized for just one function. Chips like Accel are designed from ground up to be highly specialized in image processing and AI, which is partly why it has such high efficiency. Plus combining photonics and analog electronics reduces the energy consumption tremendously because you don't need to keep the electrons flowing to make the chip work; the laser light does a lot of the heavy lifting. China's lead in photonics is also why they are also leading in quantum computing which can be based on photonics electronics. You cannot sanction a country that has everything it needs to create new technology. It's foolish and futile. All you do is force China to stop taking it easy and push for the frontier.

I had a look at the paper on ACCEL chip published on Nature. And no I don't think it's going to impact the chip market in the near future. Photonic computing, like quantum computing and neuromorphic computing, are experimental and not for general purpose.

I am pretty sure the use of legacy equipment for improvising and "making the best of it" will end within 2-3 years. By then they will have their own EUV lithography machines and other most advanced equipment up and running. The good thing about that new AI chip is that although it is also based on legacy tech, the Chinese seem to be the first to have used and combined such tech in a way that enables such performance. Even if the West tried to copy that now, China has a head start and can build on that to further improve it and make it ready for mass production. Maybe they will make such progress that trying to catch up on conventional chip tech is no longer necessary in the first place. I assume that the extremely low energy consumption also results in almost zero heating, so they can do without cooling systems.

I really appreciate your videos. However, there is one subject that does not appeal to me at all; the unbridled desire for possessions, money, ("security"?) Life comes with many more possibilities than just money and never satisfying possessions. All assets require permanent protection (you can't really explain it any clearer with your advertising...search for "safe" investments) "Certainties" do not exist and security comes from within. Every asset has its limitations and the globalists have set a stunning example by confiscating/stealing Russian goods and funds, for example. The same applies to any other..... Values in life lie elsewhere than in the pursuit of matter. Matter comes to you instead of taking it to you. And then has a completely adequate function without wanting more than is necessary and in a responsible manner towards our fellow human beings, whoever they may be
