From now on if we give foreign aid to a country, we're getting something in return. Trump just told Zelensky that he needs to give us critical minerals for all the money we gave his country. We've been giving billions to countries in Africa and getting nothing in return. They might be poor, but they have alot of land they can give in exchange for aid or let us drill some oil wells. I have land in the US and if I fell on hard times, I would be selling some of my land to put food on the table.

And you think that is possible under Trump. For start there is not enough skilled work force in the US to take on the skill manufacturing job. just to give you some idea that there is 200+ million skilled or trained work force in China and in the US is around 50 million. When it comes to modern manufacturing there is a need to have a complete supply chain this is the reason why India can't replace China when it comes to manufacturing, one of the problem cited by Apples was India lack of supply chain in India and rely on China to supply 90% of the components. So in order for the US to get the jobs back it needs investment in building up the supply chain, in infrastructure such as better transport system. logic system, electricity, road and bridges, there is also need for large investment in human capital like improve the education. And even when this is done there is a need to manufacturing competitively in a challenging international environment. TSMC which already invested in the US to open up new semiconductor factory already admit that US lack the talent to make high end semiconductors and also doubt they can be profitable in manufacturing their semiconductors in the US. In Trump's first term the manufacturing job actually reduced by 200000 and also in the last few years the US primary industry sector also suffered, it runs a trade deficit on agricultural goods. If the US has any idea of how to take these jobs back then we should have seen he talking loud about his industrial policy not just the tariff.

I am a Pensioner aged 75 with the full state pension plus a small private pension and I am still receiving the winter fuel allowance that tells me something is seriously wrong with our welfare system.The bar for this benefit is quite high. I know also too that I pay tax on my private pension -because the tax threshold has not changed in several years.
