Its not an India-China border. Its a border of India and Chinese Occupied Tibet (CoT). China wants to keep the LAC as a 'frontier', that way it can make ridiculous claims on Indian sovereign land. If the PLA probes into India, then the powerful Indian military (who have adopted a tough defense posture) must play offense - ingress and hold lands in CoT, and force talks. That'll keep Beijing on its toes. The bottom line for India - Trust China (very little) but verify (often). And yes, stay ever vigilant.

Sikkim was an Indian protectorate( foreign policy was Indian but every other policy was their own) and things were OK until the Crown Prince married an American lady who wanted to become fully independent- ie have an American listening post in an area which was critical for Indian security. Reading a comment posted, I came to the conclusion it was the Indians who were undoubtedly the aggressor in the 1962 war...Nothing to do with British, just pure imperialistic behavior. Consequently, India gained more land even it had lost the war. Nehru had been successful in annexing land and nations for previous 13 years. Nehru did no more annexation and passed on 2 years later. No other Indian did any better. If china had planned the Invasion, they wouldn't have retreated. It is ridiculous to plan an invasion at time of being completely isolated as a country while having massive famine with only thoughts of finding more food, and then having succeeded with loss of lives and precious resources, to simply give back won land.
