The Chinese importer will pay a tariff hike and pass it on to it's customers resulting in fewer sales because of dearer prices. Tariff hikes are a fairly stupid way to start a trade war. For a POTUS that's a 'genius' who 'invented' the Art of the Deal, why hasn't he brokered ONE DEAL since taking office? Sanctions, tariff hikes and threats... no deals, lol.

I am an American now for 72 years. My government is telling me that we have a trade deficit with China. If we do then I am with Trump. However, what I have seen in my 72 years is these products that we buy from name brand companies here in the US are actually made in China. The new Apple Iphone is typical. I buy things from EBAY because I can get a much better price. As an example, I recently needed a new Kohler starter for my riding lawnmower. The Kohler dealer wanted $168 dollars and actually Kohler's starters are poorly designed. I ordered the starter from a company here in the US and it costs me $40 dollars. When I compared the new starter with the original starter, the new starter, which was made in China, is better made than the original. I have read that these Kohler Courage engines are made in China and India but Kohler designed and engineered them. The Chinese are making exactly what Kohler wants. Trump should attack all these American companies that design and sell a product here in the US but have those products made outside the US. Thankfully, the Chinese have beat these greedy American companies at their game for they build an identical product and sell it for much less. If China can sell a well machined product for only $40, then why must Kohler sell the same for $168? I have run into the same situation many times.

there was a reason why China sell them cheap because they didn't spend any money on research. for example I research and invent a 3D tv, I spent 3bilion USD on research and will spend more money on factory and material to produce this 3d tv I will need 2 billion more and 100milion to promote like commercial and more. production cost per unit is 1k USD now to recover the money I spent on research and promotion the price of this tv in the market will end up 10k but if someone steel my invention the only thing they need to spend on is the factory and material since the production cost per unit is only 1k they now can sell it 6k or even lower.

US is a huge market for them and if they lose market share here then suddenly they lose a big source of income, whereas our market share in china is much smaller to begin with so we dont stand to lose as much income. Remember during the campaign Trump talked a lot about China and the U.S. trade deals? Asking them to deal with North Korea was something of a shit test to verify if Chinas trade deals were designed to harm the U.S. Because a Nuclear North Korea would be a Huge problem for the U.S. to deal with. China stopping North Korea's Nuclear Pursuits would have been seen as a good faith demonstration of China's good will in trade and in general U.S. Chinese relations. China failed the test on North Korea thus the Trade issue has come to the foreground with China.
