I humbly request everyone to read these two books “Tibet was never part of China since antiquity” by Prof. Lau and "Tibet brief 20/20" by Michael van Walt van Praag. Prof. Lau is an esteemed Chinese American scholar, who devoted his retired life, doing intense research on the status of Tibet and wrote this historical book, titled, “Tibet was never part of China since antiquity”. In this particular session, Professor Lau presented his arguments based on the authoritative documents during the Ming Dynasty in China. Ironically, those were the same source used by PRC to claim that Tibet has been a part of China.

India has a limitation to support Tibetan cause openly but nobody can deny that India has done the most for Tibetans. Thats the reasons why Tibetan army dont hesitate to give their boold for the safty of india. we feel more closeness with indians in abroad, tibetan choose Indian market as their hungout spot over chinese market be it US or EU. The last line sir said is very postive and hopefully. Thank you indian people and Govt.

Events leading to China's conflict with India in 1959: This refers to the escalating tensions between China and India following China's annexation of Tibet. The Dalai Lama's escape to India in 1959 was a significant factor in this conflict, as India's decision to grant him asylum angered the Chinese government.

Good account but Mr. Sinha misses out these very important points: 1)Panniker was not that enamored with China, their system or Chou, yes China overthrew Chiang-kai-Shek who was backed by imperial powers, this is what the freedom fighters admired and the Chinese aim of reforming tribal type society. Panniker used to meet Chou frequently, once after a meeting he gathered from a hint, just a hint, that China may plunge into the Korean war, Panniker cabled Nehru who informed Dean Acheson of US who paid no attention. If Panniker was enamored with China, he would not have taken this hint seriously. China did intervene in Korea. (Source: "War & Peace in Modern India" by Prof. Srinath Raghavan). 2)China was in chaos in 1914 when British India included Tibet in 1914, there was no central authority, warlords ruled different parts of China and the Chinese delegation was a sham delegation which signed the papers. At this time Britain had recognized Chinese suzerainty over Tibet (not sovereignty) meaning Tibetan autonomy. (Source Prof. Srinath Raghvan). 3)Melvyn C Goldstein of the Case Western University has given a detailed account with evidences that from 1942 US recognized Tibet as an autonomous part of China and continued to do so even after the communist takeover of China and also in the 1950s while supporting the Tibetan rebels! What could India have done or Nehru could have done with the superpowers taking this stand? 4)As soon as communists established their total control, Nehru realized Chinese intentions on Tibet, Nehru wrote to General Cariappa to give assessment of Indian military capability to intervene in Tibet if China attacked, Gen Cariappa flatly said India had no capability. These letters are in the Indian archives. (Source: Manoj Joshi, a reputed security and China expert). 5)Nehru then sought US and UK intervention, they advised Nehru to do anything short of military action. (Source Ranjit Karla - a security expert). 6)Nehru out of practical realism had to sign the 1954 agreement (Foreign Secretary RK Nehru and Prof. Srinath Raghavan). 7)Nehru cleverly introduced PANCHSHEEL which was a code of conduct in international relations, this was a clever move, Mao is on records accepting and praising PANCHSHEEL on October 19, 1954. This was during the meeting with Nehru, verbatim Mao quote is in archives. Nehru worked very hard to press China to give Tibet maximum autonomy so Tibet would exercise some restraint on China in matter of stationing troops on the border with India (Source: John W Garver). 8)Nehru during the 1954 visit to China took up border issues and wrong maps of China with Chou who agreed to correct them. Chou did not utter anything about the border and accepted them as it was. (Nehru notes in archives) 9)Then Chou on his visit to India in 1957 did the same, he said he was happy with the borders after incorporating Tibet into China and said it was a settled matter. (Source: Prof. Raghavan) 10)Then suddenly in 1959, Chou made a U-turn and said the entire border was up for negotiations. (Prof. Raghavan). Thereafter started making demands upon demands and made offers for settlement which were like you go back on your land and we go back a bit on your own land. Nehru could not agree to this, obviously. 11)Knowing India's military disparity, Nehru tried very hard to make compromise, his unrealistic party members not grounded to reality, opposed Nehru. Acharya Kriplani even blocked his Rs. 100 crore request to buy arms saying it would violate the soul of the father of the nation. Meantime, in 1960 the Supreme Court of India issued a ruling that the executive could not make any changes to the boundary, only the legislature had that power, his Cabinet and the Parliament who had gone jingoistic were not going to make any compromise. Even the press had gone jingoistic. 11)There is evidence China had planned attack in 1959. (Source Bruce Reidel and Bert Lintner). Then in 1962 Chinese people were in poor shape due to the failure of the Great Leap Forward. Mao needed to divert the attention. He also wanted to cut down Nehru as the leader of Asia and the developing nations. There are so many well researched accounts stating Nehru took a very practical stand, just the way Kashmir issue has been twisted to malign this great leader, the China issue also has been twisted and then the trouble is that people do not read wide ranging accounts and draw their conclusions based on narrow view derived from single but flawed source. This is no criticism of Mr. Sinha, he came out as a good and a decent man, scholarly on his history of Tibet missing out above points and somehow summed up the 1962 war within a snap, it is a long account. Could run into one hour. Those interested must read CIA declassified reports in three parts, War and Peace in Modern India, John W Garver and Melvyn C Goldstein.

Tibetan Buddhism is based on Nalanda tradition. Tibetan king Tri-song De-tsen invited Nalanda abbot Shantha Rakshit and Padma Sambhava to lay the foundation of Buddhism in Tibet in 8AD. Duo built first monastery called Samye which still functions. Fisrt 7 Tibetan were ordained as monks and soon the Samye became the center of translation of Buddhist scriptures from Sanskrit and Pali. Two volume Sanskrit Tibetan dictionary was composed. During the same time Chinese monks also came to teach Buddhism. So Tibetan king invited both Chinese scholar and Indian scholar in a debate. Chinese monks were defeated by the Indian scholar led by Kamal Sheela a student of Shantha Rakshit. So Tibetan banished the Chinese monk. Two most important scripture in Tibetan Buddhism are called Kaghur (Buddha's word consist of 108 volume) and Tenghur (commentary on Buddha's word by Indian Maha Pandits 220+ Volume). Both these scripture begin with Sanskrit and in Tibetan it start as in the language of India and later in Tibetan. No where it says in Chinese language. Tibetan name for Sanskrit is Lek Jar meaning well crafted. From 7AD to 13 AD Tibetan travelled to India mostly to present day Bihar, Bengal and Kashmir. Tibetan travelled via Nepal whete they learn Sanskrit before going to India to study Buddhism in Nalanda, Vikramshila etc. In Vikramshila there so many Tibetan that there was separate unit set up for Tibetan. Tibetan Lama from 13th century served as spiritual advisor to Mongol and Chinese emperor.

Arunachal Pradesh, Ladak, Sikkim and parts of bordering regions were part of Independent Tibet. China’s claim on sikkim, arunachal, ladak is based on Tibetan historical documents. India made a blunder and recognized Tibet as part of China. India must correct its historical betrayal and blunder by Nehru and its subsequent governments.

Historically, Tibet, at least part of it includng Kailash and Mansarovar, was under Nepal. The Newar traders of Nepal kothis (businesses) in Lhasa. They enjoyed certain privilges back then. During the reign of Malla kings, Nepal used to mint silver coins for Tibet. I do not know of any other country, save Nepal and China later on, 'controlling' Tibet.

Nehru was championing decolonization in far of places but at supported colonialism just beyond its border in Tibet in 1954 so-called Pansheel. At UN Nehru point K Menon man in UN supported China through parroting Chinese line. Within a week after Chinese attack Nehru said India do not share an inch of border with China in parliament sometime in October 1962 which is recorded in parliament precceding document. This statement contradicted all earlier statement including 1954 Trade Agreement or Pansheel. But still despite the 1962 statement the govt has not changed since than. Even the fierce critic of Nehru's China policy, Vajpayee officially signed Tibet as a part of China in 2003/4.

Indian govt is not speaking truth still hiding which is truth at one point Indian is afriad to China. before 1959 all the himalayan belongs to Tibet. every culture, tradition, religion n way living n food and clothes is completely different from India than how can say these himalayan are India.
