When the loans for infra and other public goods are mismanaged, and/or government finances are collapsing, they will go into default unless the IMF helps. $90 Billion and the government is giving away about $45 Billion JA dollars annually of the unregulated gratuity collected on behalf of the workers at the expense of the underpaid Jamaican hotel workers. The minister of tourism and his strategist is strategizing against the hotel workers. Can you believe that other employee in the same hotel paying 3% our of 8% to accounting staff to work on their incentives. In some hotels the part of the gratuity is used to subsidize lunch , and uniform, work permit, not to mention missing items from the hotel inventory.

To answer all your questions, Jamaica is not tied to the IMF. Our debt to GDP now stands at 70%, while the US debt to GDP is a whopping 145%. Which country is better off? I am sure you all will say the USA. We owe 90 billion to China, less than 4% of our remaining debt, while the USA owes a whopping 1.5 trillion to China, a third of their total bond debt. But instead, you people are only worried about Jamaica. And by the way, we owe not one dollar to China for the North-South Highway, they are earning back their investment through toll payments over a 50-year time period.

You’re right about the brief history on China’s relationship with Jamaica. However, you failed to put your caption “ China owns Jamaica” in the proper context. You have not properly articulated how you arrived at such conclusion. Firstly, what China is doing in JA is not unique to JA, this same kind of investments by the Chinese are taking place throughout Central and South America, other Caribbean Islands as well as some Africa counties. Just to let you know, Between Great Britain, France and the USA have colonized countries and drained their sources and left them with nothing. Show me something tangible that the US has in JA?Great Britain left a few colonial buildings, reminding us of the suffering our forefathers went through. The Chinese are doing what the so called friends of ours are not doing; developing the infrastructure of JA as well as forming meaningful partnership. Yes, there is something in it for them, because they are aiming to become the next super power and they want numerous alliances with developing nations. Remember that JA does not have the monetary resources to do any of those things, and the little that we do have are being stolen from our elected officials.
