If you're coming to China to attend a wedding, you'll be surprised by the differences in tradition.
Due to China's size and many different ethnic minorities, not all weddings will be the same. Traditions vary depending on where you are.

★★ Vows ★★
------------------------------
Chinese weddings are not the place where vows take place, as this is done at a local government office beforehand when the paperwork is signed. Therefore if you attend a Chinese wedding you will not be watching the legalization of the marriage, but just be attending the celebration of the union between two people, generally through many courses of delicious food.
Chinese wedding invitations are usually presented in a long red envelope, similar to the traditional hongbao in which money is gifted to people at weddings, during Chinese New Year, etc.

★★ Photographs ★★
------------------------------
These days the couple usually will have an elaborate wedding album prepared before their wedding, with pictures taken around the city, often at popular tourist sights - the more romantic and pretty the better.
The wedding album, however, will not usually contain pictures of the actual ceremony. Wedding photos are taken in advance, so they can be on display at the wedding breakfast.
If you visit China during spring, summer or fall you might see couples having these professional pictures taken. Most like Western-style outfits and surroundings, but being as they tend to have several different outfits and settings, they can choose traditional and modern, fun and formal. It is a great idea as it takes the pressure off on the day, and everyone can see the photos as they decorate the wedding venue.

★★ Pre-Wedding Activities ★★

Before a Chinese wedding celebration, the groom will often go to the bride's house to collect her.
However, the bride will be surrounded by a few of her girlfriends, who will tease the groom before handing over the bride. The girls will have to be bribed or convinced by the groom with pretends or envelopes with money before they will hand over their friend, the bride. Then, the bride and groom will bow to the bride's parents before taking her to the groom's house.

★★ Colors ★★
------------------------------
Traditionally, Chinese weddings are very different from Western weddings even just in terms of colors.
Red plays a vital role in Chinese weddings, because this color is associated with success, loyalty, honor, fertility, and love, amongst others. Because of this, decorations at Chinese weddings are generally in red, and so is the bride's dress.
Gold is also commonly used, as it portrays wealth and fortune.
White, is commonly associated with funerals in old tradition , so not often used. Dark colors, such as black, gray, and dark blue, are also best avoided. However, western-style wedding has become mainstream for recent years and all colors are acceptable. Read more about lucky and unlucky colors.

★★ Dresses ★★

At most Chinese weddings, the bride will wear a traditional Chinese qipao dress.
However, it is becoming increasingly common to wear a white Western-style wedding dress. This is especially the case when the bride wears more than one dress, as happens in many weddings. In that case the bride will wear a red qipao, a Western-style wedding dress, and a ballgown.
The ceremony will start in one dress, and after the first three courses the bride will change into the next dress. Then again, after another three courses, the last wedding dress will come out. Guests can wear any formal attire in accordance with the bride and the bridegroom.

This old style wedding in rural China is almost like the 60s in my home in Raub, Pahang, Malaysia. The traditions and similar cooking methods. It was a happy and noisy affair then. Now it had disappeared. This video is certainly very refreshing indeed

Wow, this is different from anything that I have ever seen on you-tube. Congratulations to the happy couple and it was so nice that you showed the village gathering for breakfast and then the fancy restaurant setting for lunch. I notice that the bride is the only one dressed in a beautiful traditional red wedding outfit and not the groom. In the West we usually have a quick lunch and the big celebratory meal is in the evening. I guess in China, this is moved earlier for morning and noon. I can't help but notice how nice the buildings look along the road and how many expensive cars there are in this small village. Yes, my dear friend, the couple are the personal friends of mine, and I drove 3 hours from Changsha to attend their wedding. One of the cars in the fleet is mine. I was helping the groom to collect the bride and prepared some blessing words for them and do some videotape job for them. The couple in rural China have to follow the wedding rules of the local town to preparing morning banquet and do some ancestor worship activities. It's also very interesting for me to watch a lovely wedding day like that. The groom is not necessary to dress a traditional red dressing. He is so kind to let the bride to be the center of the wedding. Because red color is the center color and he let the bride to be the red star alone, which showed his great love the the bride. Did you know any of them or just friends of friends ? The brides Chinese wedding dress was amazing, so much embroidery work, very very pretty. The red outfits always look very smart and I prefer them. The groom had balls of steel to play a guitar and sing to his wife something he had composed himself in front of the crowd, then throw in a little trouble maker to the mix to try play the guitar with him haha but it didn’t seem to phase him one bit, good man 👊 He looked cold at his place and more than she did, maybe nerves, was it a chilly day ? great day for it though as you said. I went to Chinese wedding as well. It was in the early morning, so we wake up around 6AM to drive there. We went brides house and drive around town a bit behind them. By 12AM it was over. Food was really good and I could not stop eating. I knew groom and bride personally, but most people came just for eat and didn't pay any attention to the couple. This wedding looks smaller and more private. I think it is better with closer friends and relatives.

Very similar to Malaysian Chinese wedding. Bride wore western white wedding gown. Kua usually at the tea ceremony. The open air cooking kitchen was in the early 70's however, modern day, the restaurant will take care of the dinner. Groom has to go thru few "barriers" n "tax" heavily by the bridemaids. Pray to their ancestors at the bride n groom home. Decorated cars n fire crackers too but it fun.

A bit of happyness in this crazy world :D I love how the woman always smile and almost laugh , while the man is always stressed and unsure of everything hahaha XD Are wedding open to everybody ? i mean, everybody can decide to join the party of the wedding in China ? It's possible here, but many people doesn't do it because of some respect or to not make the host to have to pay alotss of money for the food, drink and else :D Wow ! You got free smoke on wedding :O, that's a very first time i see this XD . Here , the tradition is that it's the guest who are supposed to give gifts to the couple, and not the couple to give gifts to the guest XD I like that the old man forget the words, hahaha that's some funny moment to remember later XD Is the fish and the 3 cups some kind of gift for the gods or something ? The lady was almost going to drink it XD, she is definitly not used to theses kind of tradition hahaha XD Next time i will make some fireworks, i will think about some couples being married in China XD. Fireworks are definitly a big things in China. Wow thank you alots :D, this video made me laugh alots and make me super happy :D. It's soo sweet and nice to see some happy moment during theses hard times. Maybe one day i will get married... But to be honest, i dont feel in a hurry to do it (and maybe stressed about it), even tho, we still unsure wich kind of wedding we should go for, the traditional asian wedding or the european wedding. But as the asian wedding is not really recognized here (it's recognized, but it's sometime a pain with our governement and laws and stuff), we probably gonna make both wedding XD Wow :O i just realise that this was the small wedding style i saw in your video when you visited the wedding event in Changsha ( i think it wass Changsha.). remember i told you that i always prefe the traditional chinese outfit more than the long white wedding dress XD

I love the bride's smile and laughing too! We have the same feel again, Frank! The wedding is NOT open to everybody, Frank. It's only open to friends and relatives of the bride and groom. The groom is one of my best friends. I drove 3 hours from Changsha to this town to help him to collect his bride. And do some filming job also. I hurt my back during the wedding, but it's OK, not too serious, so I filmed this video only with my phone, not my heavy DSLR camera. ---------------------- I like that the old man forget the words, hahaha that's some funny moment to remember later XD YES, YES, YES, I was laughing too, and the bride can't help her laughing too.....very interesting..... ------------------- Is the fish and the 3 cups some kind of gift for the gods or something ? That's for the ancestors of groom's family. That showed the great respect to the ancestors. @@WalkEast Thank you :D hahah yup, you knwo me XD i like to laugh sometime on simple things, but unpredictable, it's the best funny moment XD I hope you will make more videos like this, showing some kind of everyday of chineses people, the kind of things we never see on tv, internet or else videos. It's very amazing to see people from otehrs countries having fun and pleasure with traditional things. And it's important to preserve them :D Hope in futur you will maybe have a museum dedicated to you and your video, something like "the man who change the vision of China to the world" :D Actually, if you were here, you could do that :O, it's not rare tos ee people doing a small expo of their work, getting a few days in a museum and expose the videos to show the life of others countries and things we never seen elsewhere. :D

Whole wedding ( or post wedding) ceremony strongly resembles with Bangladesh Muslim wedding ceremonies, like multiple barriers to get the bride, find out shoe( in Bangladesh groom shoe hide and to get shoe has to soent hafty money), open cooking for feast, decorate groom car to bring bride, family and friends get together to celebrate wedding ceremony. Apart from religious side, whole ceremony 90% resemble with Bangladesh Muslim wedding ceremony. Just amused
