Some experts now believe that China is 8 to 10 years ahead of the US on its 6rh Generation aircraft development. This means by the time the US goes into 6th generation production, China will be deploying their 7th Generation. China's world-leading scientific and engineering talent has helped it to leapfrong "generational" technology in a number of fields. However, the US is not graduating PhD scientists and engineers in sufficient quantities to compete with China meaning it will continue to lag behind.
@鄂凯14 күн бұрын
Too optimistic. The technological reserves of US are surely still greater than China's at present. However, there are problems with US's cost control, which will definitely lead to poor performance in terms of the schedule.
@Gongolongo14 күн бұрын
As impressive as China is. I HIGHLY doubt that. China is approximately on par or at best slightly ahead in development.
@shark-h3s14 күн бұрын
You just have to look at the eudcation in the US and then compare that with china's. I bet a "normal" 10 year old chinese school kid would outsmart 80% of all Americans. And over 50% of the engineers and scientists of the US aren't even from the US. So it's absolutly realistic that china is ahead.
@gumpyoldbugger694414 күн бұрын
Right now, it is a matter of debate of who is ahead in the race to field the first Gen 6 fighter....some say China is 2 to 4 years behind the US, other say it the US that is 2 to 4 years behind China and yet others believe they are on par with each other, only time will tell. Either way, it's pretty impressive what China has been able to do both nautically and aeronautically in the past 25 years.
@gumpyoldbugger694414 күн бұрын
@ One of the biggest problems the US has is that much of their technical talent is starting to age out and is not being replaced in sufficient numbers as only 20% of the US's University/College graduates are in the STEM programmes. Whereas in China, fully 40% of their graduates are in the STEM fields, so China is producing more technical talent required to grow their industries and develope new systems. The Chinese spend about 36% of what the US does on defence, development and procurement, but they get a much bigger bang for their buck, or yuan. Part of the US problem is that it uses a cost plus system to pay for both the R&D of weapon system, as well as their manufacturing. This system does little to incentivize firms like Boeing, Lockheed Martin etc to cut costs and waste out of their programmes, after all the more it cost, the more they make. I wasn't able to find what system the PLA uses to pay for the manufacture and development of weapon systems, but it would seem it is more tightly controlled than the rather loosey goosey system employed by the US.

In recent years, China's military-related R&D has seen a blowout, somewhat similar to the Cambrian Explosion. In China, the construction capacity of China itself may even struggle to keep up with its own R&D speed. For example, the steam catapult that was originally planned for the 003 aircraft carrier never got the chance to be installed on board. Now it seems that the J-35 might face a similar situation. At least the number of units both in PLAAF and PLAN will not be large.

What are the chances both J36 and J50 will be put on the up coming 5th carrier? I'm hypothesizing that by the time the 5th carrier is done building, the two 6th gen will be put into services officially, both with dramatic and revolutionary engines? They successfully tested the detonating wave engine, and they have seasoned scramjet technology. I just saw a vlog yesterday stating a potential scramjet/detonating pulse combo for the J36. It is assumed that the United States' Pentagon has now taken notice the appearances of these 2 aircrafts and that they will do their own due diligence on the matter. PLAAF will focus on performing more tests with these aircrafts, developing new stealth doctrines/strategies, and training of personnel. Specs n Stats of the aircrafts will be released in due course.
