Good thing they decided to not actually keep these regulations. I live in China and see these dancing elderly men and women in the parks all the time. I've actually jumped in once or twice just for fun; it's one of my many guilty pleasures as a laowai.

I have lived in China for the past 8years and "square dancing" is mostly looked at as a positive thing. It allows old people to socialize and exercise at the same time giving less concerns of loneliness or health issues to their children. I have never heard the song about Xu (Chinese president) being used for dancing in the public before... The songs are normally Chinese Pop songs that have nothing to do with politics. There are complains from some people but the problem really doesnt have much to do with Chinese politics... China does have a lot of cringeworthy laws but most of them are not really reinforced these days. A lot of the problems this channel talks about do exist but the severity and intensity is highly exaggerated. This is all speaking from personal experience. I recommend you to go to China someday and have an actual look at the daily life of people there.

Other than some arguments between one group of retiree dancers with another, I've never seen any problems. It's something I enjoyed in Shanghai and Changsha (the two cities I saw this in) and my wife and I would frequently join in the fun. My wife says this is good for you and I agree. There are some "dance teachers" there that do their thing for tips, but what's the big deal? As for the young, I suppose that it depends on where this dance is located. I'd only agree with the youngsters is there was a rowdy elderly group dancing outside their bedroom window. In any case, was it really necessary for the government to stop in there? Rhetorical question as the answer is NO!
@Shrapnel828 жыл бұрын
You call that a square dance? Hah! Barely even qualifies as a hoedown. Now, add some banjo, and you might get to get up to a hootenanny, but it'll take years before they can work their way up to a full on barn burner.

Unlike Western cultures, Eastern cultures are more likely to have extended families with the grandparents living with one of their child's nuclear family. Due to this, I don't really think it's as large of a problem as it is within Western cultures. With the grandparents living with their child, they can look after the grandchildren when both parents are at work, they may spend less money since food and shelter is already provided by the parents. Since they spend less money, they only need a small amount of Pension money. Since they can look after the grandchildren, the parents can work longer in the economy. Everythings alright in this system I guess...

Dancing Grandmas is a lot more dangerous then it sounds. It is a very good thing that the Great Communist party of China is creating a safe way for the elderly to do their dances in public? I mean I cant think of a better way to spend the last few days of ones life then by dancing in celebration of the supreme leaders of the Great Communist party.
@JohnMunroTV9 жыл бұрын
Is this a joke? How is dancing to Maroon 5 dangerous compared to dancing to CCP sanctioned dances? If it is illegal to dance to what music you choose that has no political inclinations then how is that dangerous? I can understand why the CCP bans some music because they don't want to lose power over 1.2 billion people but it's a bit unfair on the people if they don't have a tiny bit of choice

arno nabuurs I think you hit on it here. The state-sanctioned dances don't have any hidden martial arts components in them for the masses to protect themselves against ... um, you know ... criminals. I noticed how young people's complaints were the times, places, and volume of the dancing, yet the method of control didn't address any of these-just the content.

I've been watching China Uncensored comments for quite a while, and it's awesome to see the number of CCP trolls on here decline to nearly none. Most of the "trolls" are now just mock trolls, like you (I think you started the trend), and everyone laughs-or takes them to task (thinking they're legit)-because there's no one left on here who still thinks the CCP is good. "Do the Hustle". Completely coordinated dance routines make me want to puke. My eldest daughter, a second degree black belt in Tang Soo Do, participates in a belly-dancing group. She's the most popular attraction, but there's one other woman who is also slender. I didn't know this until she joined, but apparently a "muffin top" is considered sexy in the belly-dancing audiences in other countries. Here in the US, being fit is more attractive. My middle daughter (also second degree) runs the karate school demo team and is in control over those who outrank her on the demo team. The common point is that neither are "The Hustle" style. Sure, they do some "everybody synchronize" parts, but with both the karate and belly dancing, it is mostly choreographed individual movements. My youngest daughter (also 2nd degree) is in her third year at George Mason University, so she mostly has to practice on her own because it is far away. My wife is a third degree black belt and at all of 4' 10 3/4" and 95lbs wet, she can beat the living shit out of pretty much anyone except for the Grand Master and his son, also a Master. We started all of the children in karate when they were 3 1/2 to 4 years old and my wife has run a successful pre-school karate program for over a decade. One of her first students just tested to become a second-degree black belt. I remember her as a child and it blows me away to watch her now. My wife taught her most of the way. One thing about it, I don't really worry when my wife or daughters say, "I'm going out for a bit". Nobody is going to get the best of any of them.
