I propose the build an auntie-exclusive park with built-in audio system so they don't have to bother with the screeching music box. But then they'll clash with other auntie groups because both of them are too loud and they're not playing the same thing, then they'll have dance-offs, rumbles and whatnots, it's going to be a free for all auntie arena.

I live in a third-tier city in China. There is an area that I have to pass regularly where locals are all selling bananas. They have their bananas on the floor, alongside the road, and each one of them has a big speaker blaring out repetitive information about how much a kilo their bananas are. They all feel they must do this so as not to lose any competitive edge, the noise is incredible and you cannot pick out what is being said. I'm sure it must be counterproductive, as no potential customer would want to stand in earshot of such a din. It seems the Chinese have a greater tolerance for noise.

The Aunties also dance in public parks in Hong Kong, I do not mind they exercise, the problem is, they are too loud, it is hard to find a park to take a peaceful break. This happens in Taiwan as well to a lesser extent. To organise and meet at a dance hall costs money but the park is free. Lots of people including kids are often walking around the parks and streets at night time, due to long work hours and cram schools keeping kids in school till 9pm at night, their social/exercise time is usually quite late at night.

Once, they were doing work outside my building and decided to CUT CONCRETE first job of the day...and it sat there not being worked on the rest of the day. The next morning, they decided smashing the cut concrete with a BACKHOE SHOVEL, just slamming it down as hard as he could while doing almost nothing. I ran down in my sleeping pants, hopped the fence and yelled at the guy to shut it off or I'd drag him out. He said fuck off so I jumped onto the machine and opened his door, then he started freaking out properly. I demanded to talk to his boss. I went to talk to the foreman, told him about the cutting the day before and the ineffectiveness of the new bullshit and just told him "There's a better way to do things..." and there was never conflict again.

Something I see with elders is that when they get their hands on a new piece of technology, or a new trend or phrase, you gotta keep your eyes on them because chances are they will assume they know what they are doing, but could really get into trouble if they have something mixed up. I’ve had to clean my family’s computers a few times now, and rip scams away from some older folks when they seemed ready to fall for it. A relative also says older exclamations like “Holy smokes!” and uses the word “retard” in a non-demeaning way, and I have to figure out how to address that, for his own good. What we see here is what happens when a trend becomes appropriated by the elders, but nobody has the heart to tell them to stop it (filial piety and all)
@p.hammernick5277

Actually here some neighbors will speak up. but most of the time they just have an agreement to each other to let this continue as there is no better thing elders can do in their free time Edit: Not every elders can do other less noise activities like playing sports or playing video games. They wont really feel like doing so or just cant have enough physical strength to do so.
@SpencerLemay
@SpencerLemay 2 жыл бұрын
Honestly who cares if he says retard. Doubly so if he means "to slow", because that use of the word is still used in an technical context all the time. Retardant is still a commonly used technical term. What person who could potentially fit under the category of "retard" actually cared about that word until some liberal told them that they should feel bad about it? You know what is really stupid? Retard was at one point the PC word! People used to use the terms cretin or moron for someone with an intellectual impairment in a non insulting way, then people decided those were insults, and retard was brought in as a replacement. Now people get upset when you say someone has a disability instead of "'people with health conditions or impairments"... it's all an unchecked spiral of protecting people's hypothetical feelings to the point of absurdity. Whatever word you pick will be used as an insult because vocabulary is not the source of hate. Just let the man speak how he wants.

Well If it is like a few time a week for a hour then I see it as a good social thing. The problem is in China they do not real have areas where people can do this without causing issues. Meanwhile in Europe and the USA people do this all the time during pre-planned events. Like where I live in the summer one of our parks have different local bands and singers who play once a week in the evening. Families go out to get a meal from the 25 or more different food trucks that are serving food, listen to the music, have people selling homemade product and a farmers market. When the music get going it is the little kids get grandma or Dad to dance with them. But I also remember in the 1980's lot of women would meet at a park and do aerobics as a group before gyms were big. The problem is China has no real space to do this because they really do not center on green spaces in there city. In Eagan MN ( part of the Twin Cities) there is 60 parks. One park for every 10,000 people and several of the huge. The biggest park is over 2000 acres. I have 12 parks within 2 miles of my home.

Well this has 2 faces. On my perspective it seems perfectly fine for elders to exercise in the morning and such, as they need loud enough music to listen to i guess and also the louder the more enjoyable they are in, despite the fact that it makes annoying noises that might put neighborhood in conflict. Here in Vietnam elders do these morning exercises stuffs in the parks and such too. Building an enclosed and soundproof area for these activities doesn't seem to work well as people believe "morning fresh air matters". And eventually the neighbors tend to accept the freedom of aunties to do their musical exercising things cause of course aunties will get really bored of being at home. The other face tends to lie on the frustrated neighbors who would have to bear the sounds every single morning (and maybe evening), its pretty straightforward. Keep your opinion though, as there cant be a viable solution for this at least for now.
