I know a Brit who bought a Ferrari and barely drives it because it's too expensive to run. He's also worried about it breaking down because to fix it will cost a fortune. Personally I really don't see point of owning it if you can't use the car, it's just an over priced ornament sat in the garage.

Had a neighbour crash their car into mine one night. Didn't want the insurance involved for the same reason. I told them, if you can't afford the repair or insurance then you can't afford the car. Two more small crashes later and now they wear glasses. The crash was the front side being damage, enough for the insurance to cover and nothing major

The problems of consumerism are not unique to China. What sets them appart is how strong the fluctuation of cash has been. They went to riches to rags in months, not even years. People with incomes of 2 or 300,000 dollars a year lost their income source and have no chance of find a similar one EVER.

Covid destroyed a lot of businesses. Corruption in China is more rampant. They have minimal regulations and enforcement. For all these years ever since I started carrying a mobile phone I've always been a Tracfone customer. I won't lie and say I never wanted the more fancier EXPENSIVE phones. But I know I am much more better off sticking with what is AFFORDABLE for me. I can't even imagine how much people would spend on mobile data for an iPhone, let alone paying month to month for phone service 😬!
@borrisg4972
@borrisg4972 8 ай бұрын
Tmobile is $50 for unlimited talk text and data, and 15GB (I think) a day to run as a hotspot. With the ACP (which sadly is ending very soon) it's only $20 a month. Their cheaper plans are fully free with the ACP. If you can afford it, get the cheapest smartphone on sale and get real service. The only problem, with ACP ending, the best discount will be $10 off the bill maximum. The cheapest smartphone with the cheapest service is infinitely better than anything (and everything, I've had many types of their phones) Tracfone has to offer. Considering you have to spend money for Tracfone to be passably usable (for free you get what, 250 minutes and 100 texts PER MONTH with their smartphones and 500 with their oldphones) you might as well spend it on a non shit service.

That is happening in many places outside China too. Here in Australia, many people, especially Millenials, are piling up a massive amount of debt. Is all Roses when you can afford it, but with the interest rates going up, people need more money to service those debts. The worst thing is, that most of the debt goes into luxury items just to show up and look successful not into investments.

consumerism is not CAPITALISM! Consumerism is was designed by corpocratic entities aligned with the State to control and manage society but discouraging the " capitalist" vertues of thrift, self reliance, and savings. Capitalism thrives under savings, long term thinking, and hardwork. Consumption spending is not one of its focal point. Capitalism builds savings while consumerism overspends. let's never confuse both concepts!

Official Akropovic slip on $458, on sale $348, used on Ebay $131 shipping out of Hong Kong, but even the real one comes out of China too, so I saved $236 on Ebay buying a used one, but its just a metal can and pipe with clamp and some fiberglass - hard and impractical for me to fabricate one from scratch at the same cost, given the need for tools and materials would be more expensive than the full price new official one.

I make $120,000 on a single income before taxes. I take care of a disabled woman, HER daughter that another man abandoned and my own child we had before she fell ill and had to stop working. I understand in your little Utopia world you can’t fathom something like that happening, but my family lives in the real world. We just get by, but when it comes to doing anything else like paying for meaningful experiences like a trip, covering medical expenses and medications insurance won’t, saving money for my children to go to college.. my retirement.. you know, things that matter, it’s sacrificing one thing for another. You say “two cars” like I couldn’t decide between Lambo and Ferrari and bought both. No.. I have a 2014 accord and a handicap van that we NEED. Our government has made MANY choices that have affected our economy negatively, while at the very same time, allowed businesses in other countries to thrive. And don’t even get me started on the inflation that was 100% avoidable. I haven’t made poor choices, I’ve made normal choices and worked harder than many just to sustain. I’ve stepped up where many men would have ran away and given up. Don’t talk to me about choices. Based on your attitude the hardest choice you probably make is pepperoni or steak hot pockets. Twat

Unfortunately, this country is trying to thrive on theft, greed, laziness, and corruption. This is not a formula for success. It seems that too many people today seem to gravitate towards the easy. It's about the facade. Walking like a model K-pop idol or Kdrama actor will help them gain high status and confidence. They believe it will make them get jobs and partners easily. However, they get the same thing. At the job, all of them compete in PUBG game. For dating, both sides are too materialistic. At the end, they can't afford to have a house and start a family. The sad truth is that most of middle class American are thousands and thousands of dollars in debts because of college loan and car loans. I could list a few more but these two are the most prominent. Although most of them tends to live a frugal lifes. They can never escape debts which is why United States is the land of debts unless you plan not to get a car, go to a secondary school or get a house which is incredibly difficult and most of this debts stick with you for the most part of your lifes. They are just mimicing the life of an American so nothing new about it.

In America especially for middle and lower class people, debt can be easy but to barrow is much harder than in china . In America u have to be already well off to even have so much debt unless it's like student loans or hospital stuff . U won't get to barrow so much and the punishment is just less borrowing haha. In china there is debtors prison apparently although I've never seen it. From what I've seen ,I heard people get black listed in the market ,so like buying a house or car is not longer possible even if u have the means to pay the whole think or like banning u from leaving the province, taking planes or trains. Like the government literally limits freedom when you start owing too much . But plus side is that u can borrow alot from the government with little means to pay it back or credit. U can be broke and borrow.... but I recently learned that china is stuck in an investment lead growth mindset, so it makes sense that anyone can just go to the bank and ask for money.

There's nothing wrong with owning fancy stuff, if you can afford it. What brings joy and value to you is a deeply personal decision. Rich people own loads of stuff and why shouldn't they? What makes buying toxic is if you're doing it on credit, that you're unable to repay. It's heartbreaking that people are telling themselves that they'll be wealthy again if they're pretending to be and keep up appearences. That never works. But I can understand them. They're desperately trying to cling to a reality that doesn't exist anymore, but they worked for it and don't want to give up on their dreams. They're residing to a fantasy world where they're wealthy and happy.

Also, he was not that humble to even conceive of the thought of showing that he was leaving this world with nothing.
