Leading China expert Dr. David M. Lampton discusses China's leadership, the nation's future strategic role and the challenges facing President Xi Jinping, in a conversation with National Committee on U.S.-China Relations President Stephen Orlins at National Committee program conducted at the New York Institute of Technology in New York City on March 26, 2014.
Dr. Lampton introduces his just-published book Following the Leader: Ruling China, from Deng Xiaoping to Xi Jinping (University of California Press), which explores China's political elite in part through hundreds of interviews that describe how China's leaders intend to move forward, reflect on policies and consider the challenges before them. Dr. Lampton is the George and Sadie Hyman Professor and Director of China studies at the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS), and also head of SAIS China, Chairman of the Asia Foundation and author of several books.
