In his fictional work “Utopia”, Thomas More talked about an imaginary community that possesses a highly desirable or nearly perfect societal qualities for its citizens. The contrasts he made of the harmony, equality, and prosperity of Utopian society, with the problems of the real world (such as poverty, crime, and political corruption) suggests that More believes that at least some of the virtues underlying the Utopian practices are desirable. Even if the practices themselves are far-fetched given human imperfections. Of course, China is far from a being a utopia, where everything is perfect. But the feat achieved by Beijing, especially with regards to the elevation of the livelihood for its citizenry - the pursuit of liberty, freedom, and happiness - is unprecedented, and undoubtedly the greatest achievement for humanity in the history of mankind. Indeed, this achievement is so compelling that the unbiased could only conclude that China’s achievement is no coincidence. Nor could it have been achieved by means of tyranny, oppression, or slavery. To think otherwise clearly belie Beijing’s highly competitive, distinctive, and extremely successful socioeconomic model and governance. For China is a giant of a nation with 1.4 billion people.

The issue is that all power is corruptible. Over time the leaders get complacent, ignorant, arrogant, etc. Any top down hierarchical system will eventually turn evil. It will happen 100% of the time because there is an infinite amount of time. If there is any non-zero probability of it happening it will happen. The US is a prime example as is Rome. The only reason other countries did not do this(such as Greece) was because they were invaded before they got a chance. China is far from perfect and so too will succumb. The leaders who are trying to make China the kingdom of humanity will build up their country, just as the US did when it tried, but eventually it will become even more evil because it will be even harder to stop. These "amenities" and "material" are not beneficial. You think they are. You have a fancy facade to poop. What then happens when these toilets are not maintained, are then taken over by homeless because of corruption extracting wealth from society, etc. You can change the facade but the patterns do not changes. Different clothes, different times, different languages, different ideas, but all the same mess. Maybe China will learn and not repeat the mistakes but to do that requires there be a way to deal with corruption at the very top and, well, you guessed it, the top, like all tops are unaccountable. Again, it's just a matter of time. I have nothing against the Chinese but all we are seeing is the transition due to the failures of the US to do it's thing and China is next in line... and China will fail and there will be another until there is total collapse due to some unforeseen event. History didn't start with China and it won't end with China. In fact, I think China may end up worse than the US. The US pushed to hard too fast and ignored all the warning signs(this is a trait of Americans recklessness). China is also pushing hard and fast and is also reckless in some ways(many Chinese are very greedy because they are fearful rather than greedy because they are materialistic but that is also changing). I do hope China, the government, can learn to avoid the pitfalls but I doubt it will. Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. When things start to go south they will start to compound and as governments are made of men and men want to feel superior they will take risks and those risks will be ignored and accumulate. As a threshold is crossed it is then impossible to stop the decay. I already see it in China. e.g., that they have to push out propaganda about toilets. Does every Chinese have free healthcare? free education? free basic housing? Nope... it is really not much different than the US except the US is collapsing due to the insanity at the top(the lunatics have taken over).
@JakeGutteridge Жыл бұрын
Notwithstanding that, you cannot deny that so many people in China (perhaps not all) are subject to immense surveillance and critique of their personal life, e.g. Social Credit Score system, public shaming, artificial intelligence CCTV to show a detailed profile of an individual are just a few of the examples that I have seen. I have not personally been to China but understand of several people who can testify that this is happening there. This is not "Utopia" - it is a Dystopia of the highest order, under the guise of technological advances!!!

Man, you nailed it! It's like you read my mind! This is my own original saying: *"You can judge a society by its public toilets."* I had to say it in response to a man surprised that Dublin was a disappointment to me because of toilets. He said, "So you went to Dublin and your biggest concern was toilets?" Hell, yeah! That's where civilisation begins. Guess what? There are _no_ public toilets in Dublin whatsoever. Not even _one._ And those in British cities are "out of order" most of the time. (A very convenient, cost-saving excuse for the institutions that manage them. They let their toilets be out of order on purpose.) Even ancient Romans had public toilets. But Dublin doesn't have any. I think it's the final encouragement for me to emigrate to China once I get myself out of my sorry predicament which traps me in the UK. That's the society in which I want to live and which I want to support. Not in the mediaeval and misanthropic UK or IE.

Even the conventional brick and mortar toilets have been threshed and most have had to shut up for good. If they are still open, they are usually smelly and badly maintained. To answer nature's call, you often have to resort either to a quiet side street or go to a cafe where the cheapest drink to qualify you to use their amenities will often set you back at least $2 or more.

Contrary, USA (the richest country in the world) has one of the most under serviced Citizens in the developed world. USA civic infrastructures are in deed of repair and serious replacements, and their civic services are way too expensive for millions of their citizens, who miss out. Why? Because USA is a Corporatist country, where 1% of their population OWN 90% of their country's wealth ... leaving very little taxes for the government to service their citizens.

Such a beautiful place, if it were in some country, it would be the perfect home for the homeless.

Wow !!! Futuristic Public Restroom . Most of us , Don't like go to Rest Room because its Smell is horrible, dirty and No light ! Poop with Bright light is easy go . Beautiful Lavatory Compartment for citizens will educate yourself to stay clean and fresh ! Very interesting !!! 👍👍👍👍👍👍

Toilets in China used to be very dirty, but it is true that they are getting cleaner recently.

This toilet is nice, however it'd be even better if they could design the ceiling to be able to automatically over up wide when there is no occupant; so the room can be naturally aired & automatically closed when the toilet is engaged. They could also use UV light to kill off germs when the toilets are not in use.
