As recent as 2019 when I last visited China, squat toilets were still the norm. I remembered walking all over Baiyun International Airport looking for a seat toilet. I couldn't find any! I had to squat and failed to rise from my squating position. I fell. Fortunately, the toilet was super clean. It was embarrassing but I didn't get hurt, except my pride and self confidence. Today I'm 75.

One of the many reasons I have been so concerned about visiting Asia is lack of clean facilities when traveling outside of the large cities. I want to go to pretty places not just the crowded location but have seen so much spoken about the bad rest areas. I literally would wear a diaper if I had to deal with those squatting toilets, that is how you get sick and die. It is very sad for the people to live that way and that is why you see people doing their business in the street on videos. People should not be living that way in 2024 no matter their form of government. I am glad to see China address this, their people work hard and deserve better.

I visited Guizhou recently n noted the vast toilet improvements. Plenty toilets were added n they were almost all clean n well maintained. I hv a couple suggestions though. The ratio of toiets shld b doubled or more for females as we take longer time using them. I noticed dire, insufficient seated toilets though. People with injury or recently operted on n those who hv leg probelms cant use the many available squat toilets. Toilet makers shld take note to design all toilets, especially the squatting ones with foldable railings or some sort of sliding or pop up ones to address this problem for easier usage.

Most toilets are still exactly as this video shows in the beginning of the video. Disgusting, unhygenic sewage bathrooms. The toilets they've "added" are in these bathrooms, off to the side, and still function the same as a typical squat toilet. And add in as you noticed that there are still no dividers.
