And when you do actually get the property, you don't "own" it and are technically only leasing it for 70 years... if it doesn't disintegrate in the rain and fall collapse
@briandstephmoore4910Ай бұрын
These “new” properties it’s more like 40-50 years because most of these take 10-20 years to complete and all that time counts towards your life lease
@moon_knight8578Ай бұрын
the 70 years for the land leased to the developer from the gov, people purchase a lease on an apartment from them. that can be a lot less then 70 years.
@MsWinterlifeАй бұрын
Most people in China are well aware of this condition, it’s not like everyone was ignorant or deceived. The reason that the people don’t seem to mind paying big sums for a “lease agreement”, is that the Chinese government has a well established track record for legitimising practices after the facts. So what the Chinese public is doing, is basically betting on the government’s changing the rules when the 70 years have come and past, to the effect that people would be allowed to finally own the property they had previously “purchased”. Many people simply refuse to believe that their government would take possession after the 70 year lease ends, evict them from their homes, and sell those properties all over again with a new lease. Instead, most believe that their government would instead pass new rules to recognise property ownership just before the lease term ends, and so they act accordingly by assuming they have perpetual ownership even though the contract only says lease.

6:20 "getting things done" is not an aspect of authoritarian governments. Authoritarians can get what they greenlight done quickly by waiving all the normal regulations. But ultimately "getting things done" comes down to allowing projects to happen without over regulation. The problem with an authoritarian model, for this specific issue, is that the authorities decide what projects will get waived through and which will have to go through the normal process (and in authoritarian governments the normal process is typically more burdensome than in a "liberal" society). Central planning is worse than a distributed system. It's better to let everyone try and the best projects become successful and the market adapts. With central planning your better hope your authorities are fortune tellers. You cannot predict what will work and exactly why and when it will work. Central planning is terrible. The best model for "getting things done" is a free market model with very limited government interference. Almost the complete opposite of an authoritarian government. The complaints ppl have with business in the west is that it is over regulated. That is more authoritarian, not less. Regulations are authoritarian by nature (depending on the regulation ot may be reasonable, but it is still authorities forcing you to comply).
