Maybe its hard for people from other country to imagine. All the infrastructure are owned by the gorvernment, and almost all of those nation owned campanies, doing infrastructure stuff, are losing money every year.Why? One example: during the pandemic students were not allowed to go to school anymore, they have to attend online lessons at home. But for those students living in some remote area they cant have a good internet connection at home, many of them had to travel miles to nearest town to get access to the internet. So the infrastructure company called China Tower, went there and built a communication tower there, even if there was just one family living there. As all could see, this action has to lose money, but that's the deal the gorvernment of China willing to take, just for all people could get basic service no matter where they are in China.

Yes, this is benefit of "owned by the gov" or "state run" company, Chine gov invest for the "future", not only for "now". Infrastructure is the most important for social development, but no private company is willing to take this risk. In the past 20 years, the United States gov spent more than US$2 trillion in the war in Afghanistan, while China gov spent about US$1 trillion in building a high-speed rail network :)

Alex, so happy a Canadian shows futuristic Chongqing to the crowds at Times Square, NYC. Makes Toronto's subway feels so ashamed it should burrow itself deeper underground. BTW: due to the mountainous terrain in Chongqing, there's a famous subway entrance on a hill, to get down to the subway platform level takes several escalators. You should try it.
