Because when the time comes where the competition is gone, then, they can increase their price as much as they want. There's a certain benefit when you dominate and own the market.

They are doing the same thing Uber and DoorDash did when they were new: they sell these things so cheap they drive the competition away and then they inflate their prices when they are market leaders. Another factor is that these cars are a lot cheaper to make because Chinese companies use slave labor, low quality components and materials and don’t follow high safety standards and regulations.

In Chinese Speaking cultures though, Seagull means a lot. Seagull signify Freedom, versatility, adaptability, just to name a few. Some other birds also have interesting symbolism in china. Magpie : Happiness Mandarin Ducks : Romance, fecundity. Crane : longevity, noble. Also a lot of stuff actually have Seagull brand in china (i have a 120mm camera and some photography equipment which have this bird as the brand) Et cetera.

Those cars have been catching on fire like crazy, body panels and paint coming off and even electrocuted a man inside his own car. I say this as a huge supporter of electric vehicles, I own an EV6 and a Model 3. STAY AWAY FROM THESE CARS!!

I'll pay twice as much for a car that doesn't burst into flames and doesn't have its body panels fall off after a couple thousand miles. Tesla has pretty bad quality control, but are still head and shoulders above BYD.
