One of my favourite things to do in China is to visit the parks. China has such a unique park culture that I just love. You can't go to a park in China and not be happy. There is this vibrancy and life going on that is unique to each park and area. You can find such a mixture of people who all go to the park to indulge in their hobbies and it just fills me with joy.
I hope you enjoy this ode to parks and you love them as much as I do!

@John Tam @Luxi Do Not mix Trump calling media fake news and the western media’s long time misrepresentation about China together. These two are completely different things. Trump calls media fake news is because he lies all the time and media reveals his lies and tells truth about him. Trump can care less about China or rumors about China or anyone else in that matter other than himself. On the contrary, he spreads rumors about China. In order to win the upcoming election, he makes China the enemy of the U.S. to distract attention from his incompetent and corrupt government and his failure in handling the coronavirus. It is a shame that the U.S. leads the world in the skyrocketing number of death and infected people and the government does’t give a shit about it! Trump fools American people with his daily blatant lies. For example, he lies about China stealing the U.S. data and signed executive orders to ban TikTok and WeChat in the U.S for the so-called national security reason. Trump fuels the hatred against China. Trump is the origin and superspreader of fake news. No one should count on Trump to tell truth about China. In fact he will do anything and betray anyone just so he keep power in his greedy hands!

There is no such a thing of "Asian" Countries. "Asian" countries include all races on the planet: East Asian Yellow race countries, South Asian Neoroid race countries, South East Asian mixed race countries, Northwestern Asian White race countries... Saying "Asian countries" you do is about equivalent saying "Planet Earth Countries"...ditto "Asian".

Oh the parks in China. No one does parks quite like China. In Weifang were we lived, we had Weifang Peoples park, just across the road from our apartment. From our 15th floor (top) we could see out over the park, with the beautiful Bailang river. Every day, 2 or 3 times I would visit for exercises. I got to know many of the people there, I had a feeling of 'belonging' If I didn't go one day, then the next day, I would need to explain why I missed. In Weifang park, we had a wonderful sculpture European Garden. Quite magnificent, with soft gentle Chinese music playing from many hidden speakers, just like the plants were singing. Graham

The first time I visited Kunming, it wasn't my destination buy a stopover on my way to Lijiang. As I'd arrived in Kunming at around 3:30pm, it was an odd hour and so I decided to just while away a couple of hours at the nearest park from the hotel. I hit that "Nico" moment. I starting noticing people slowly congregating at the different pavilions within the park. Soon, their instruments were out and the air filled with music and singing. Some of these performers were - I later learned - trained sopranos and musicians who've either retired from the military performance troupes or still active. It was public karaoke, UNPLUGGED. Anyone could step up and perform and nobody was judgemental. Quite often, some military hymns might be played and an entire pavilion of people would join in at the chorus. It was all so spontaneous. It was a sight to behold. I ended up spending all my spare time in Kunming (on the way into and out from Lijiang) at the park.

Nico Indeed. Ever since that trip, like you, everytime I visited China, I would set aside a few hours in the early part of my trip (e.g. when waiting for friends to fly in from HK or other cities) to visit the local park, camera in hand. I still have photos and videos (from the early days of digital cameras) tucked away somewhere in some boxes. The second such experience I had in China was by the West Lake in Hangzhou around 1999-2002. I’m not a morning person but I was taking my parents on their first China trip and we had to maximise our itinerary so we hit the lake before 7am. It was my third time there but not at that hour. As our bus made its way around part of the lakeside and the parkettes that dotted them, there were already neighbourhood troupes of middle-aged and elderly ladies decked out in their colourful home-made costumes and fans warming up to do their fan/line dances by the lake. What a wonderful surprise! You could find them all over the circumference of the lake and it’s a huge lake. I don’t remember if that was a special festive day but what a memory!
