The Unknown Mega-CIties In China | 中国未知的特大城市
As of June 2020 the PRC has a total of 687 cities: 4 municipalities, 2 SARs, 293 prefectural-level cities (including the 15 sub-provincial cities) and 388 county-level cities (including the 38 sub-prefectural cities and 10 XXPC cities).
Here are some of the cities you have never heard of.

Population of Cities in China (2022)
The administrative divisions of China designate the cities into three levels. Provincial-level cities include municipalities and the country’s Special Administrative Regions, county-level cities and prefectural-level cities. China has a total of 662 cities that fall into these three categories, with Shanghai boasting the largest population with over 22 million residents as of 2016. The country has a total of 34 provinces that house its cities.
In total, China has over 160 cities that have a population of over 1 million people. China also has metropolitan areas that encapsulate densely populated urban areas with suburban areas and rural areas that are more sparsely populated. According to 2010 data, about 674 million people reside in one of China’s many rural areas.
Cities in China are broken down into tiers, particularly when they are being discussed in the media. These tiers are designated using set criteria, including population size, infrastructure and economic outlook. Tier I cities include the centrally-administrated municipalities of Shangahi, Tianjin, Chongqing and Beijing, each of which have a population exceeding 10 million. Tier II cities include the larger cities of China including but not limited to Guiyang, Nanjing and Qingdao. Tier III cities are not as developed as Tier II cities but many that fall into this category are considered to be economically significant. Tier IV and Tier V cities round out the majority of the country’s urban population.

As an Aussie, I visited China just before the pandemic (and I've visited USA). I tell you what, China just blew me away. I had NO IDEA how advanced the Country is (they never tell you this in the West) and how well looked after the Citizens of China are. It was sad to see that USA did NOT care for their Citizens at all with their run down Civic infrastructures (USA is the worse Country in terms of taking care of their Citizens ... they take care of the 1% who own 90% of the Country's Wealth ... and you can see how their citizens are treated). I left China with a whole new respect for what the country is doing for their people. High quality life styles, total freedom and safety that you could walk around their Cities as 2 am in the Morning and feel utterly safe (I would not walk around USA's Cities after midnight ... too many idiots with guns). To all the Westerners criticising China ... you have been totally lied to. You need to go to China and see for yourself of how a Country works and cares for the health, safety, welfare, and education of all their Citizens. You WILL leave thinking ... why doesn't my country do that for us.

These smaller cities may be unheard of outside of China, but they are all famous and familiar names to us Chinese. Each and everyone has great historical significance and is rich with cultural heritage. Take Nanchang (南昌) for example. The classical building you showed as the first footage of the city is called Teng Wang Ge (滕王阁). Every educated Chinese person knows its name from one of the most beautiful ancient article written in Chinese history, 滕王阁序.

Having worked in International Shipping for 10 years, prior to retirement, I am able to say that I was familiar with a number of places you presented in this video. I really enjoyed this video for the simple fact that I was now able to actually see the places I so frequently shipped raw product for manufacturing. Changchun has FAW Group, Shanghai has SAIC Motor Group, Guangzhou Auto Group, Shenzhen has BYD, and Hangzhou has Geely Group. China, a great place to fly a drone! All looks pretty spectacular from the air. Who has the best street food, that's what we want to know! Where would someone visit, where would someone relocate? I understand that this is hard to show in a glance. I'm from Miami, pretty famous, pretty big... still full of poverty and violence, not convenient or maybe safe to go out at night in many places.... where I live there are homeless people everywhere I go, little camps in the woods, people sleeping on the street... one could go on and on, a rising tide of poverty! America has certainly lost that feeling that things are getting better for people in general, and China clearly has that! I think the feeling that things are getting better might be the best thing for morale in general.... Here there is a lot of FEAR.

It often happens that I see a video from China (it's usually about cooking, or morning wine, or street food, there are hundreds of them now) and don't recognize the name of the city. I look it up on Wikipedia, and it's a huge place, bigger than any place I've ever lived or visited! IN China, it's not regarded, people might be joking "Oh, this is a fifth-tier city" kind of thing. To me it looks like METROPOLIS! Buildings all lit up at night, open market at night that goes on for a mile, trains, you name it. I have this experience several times in one week!
