Various reasons. Not only English-language reporting in Asia affairs, but also to maintain an American political agenda in Asia. It's not only funded, it was entirely created by American organisations. Even the name has political undertones, implying that media in Asia is "not free."

@canto_v12 I didn’t know Asia has freedoms. Last week the media reported a Chinese spy is facing 5 years in prison after running a "secret police station" in NYC. Why does anyone in Asia want to spy on Americans?
