Chinatown is in my all-time Top 5, and one of the greatest musical scores ever. I've been waiting to see if the 4K looks better than the (horrible) 4K transfer on Apple TV.

Yes, this is a classic one of the '70s and it just has that great look for the time era of Los Angeles. Faye Dunaway is one of my favorite actresses. She was in Bonnie and Clyde with Warren Beatty. First one I saw her in, for me. In 1981, she played Joan Crawford in Mommie Dearest. Get her movies and Jack's! 1975, Jack was in One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest and then later The Shining. Outstanding edition here, Ken!

I've got the Paramount 'Chinatown' box set - doesn't come with 'The Two Jakes' , already got that, but does come with a whole load of extras and 'Chinatown' on blu ray too. Absolutely agree - stunning restoration of what has always been one of my favourite movies :)

Chinatown is an awesome neo noir film. Love it. Can't wait to re-watch in 4k and have ordered mine and now patiently waiting for it to make it's way here to Australia. It's pretty cool they included The Two Jake's as I've never seen that before and have always wanted to so will be cool to finally get to watch that also.

Great unboxing and review! And I also prefer to have a additional film (that I actually havn't seen) than the same film on blu-ray. I buy it for the best picture and presentation possible so don't need an extra blu-ray anyway! Would love if studios would stop including blu-rays all together actually.

I'm of two minds on this one...yes there are parts that look amazing...but this is a tad older scan, there is a ton of static grain and haloing in some scenes. Otherwise I'd say it's passable

Was going to get this release as think the Paramount Presents packaging is pretty cool, plus the sequel to boot. There seems to be some conflicting comparative reviews, so had a look at mymoonization and wasn't impressed with the 4K, finding the blu-ray better in many places. Then, I seen the nice blu-ray original artwork embossed & foil slipcover and picked it up brand new for a song... 😉

The UK have the 4k and the blu-ray disc of Chinatown, without The Two Jakes blu-ray. Chinatown is Great, the UK version, has some nice collectables poster P.I business card, and Photos, too.

Definitely one of the best films ever. ‘The Two Jakes’ is good, but nearly as good as ‘Chinatown.’ I felt Faye Dunaway absence (which made sense) was felt throughout, though. She recorded an audio message he plays, which only served to remind us what’s missing. But because so few people saw ‘The Two Jakes,’ that was the end of the story. Too bad. It would’ve been interesting to see how the story would have concluded in a third one.

I saw "Chinatown" for the first time at age 12 by myself (couldn't sleep, all adults were in bed) as an ABC Midnight Movie. The finale blew my mind. I didn't know movies *could* end like that. Also, I was way too young for the content on my own, taking in what happened and what will happen.

Nearly every review I've watched of his he throws a spoiler or two in. It's really odd too, because just like your example he'll preface with "I don't want to spoil anything for you BUT" and then he'll proceed with something like "there's a pretty crazy twist at the end that you'll never see coming" and it's like, well now I'm going to be expecting a twist and know that whatever the film was leading me to believe isn't what actually is. I absolutely cannot stand people who say "not gonna spoil it, but the twist at the end! That's all I'm gonna say." And I'm always like that's a spoiler you SOB! Don't tell me to expect a twist! Wtf...

But honestly I didn't hear what you're referring to in this instance because I pretty much always just skip to the disc section of the review. I've never found his thoughts very interesting and I'm coming here to see if people think the disc is good. Even that's hit or miss on this channel because it seems like most of these are either first time watches or he hasn't viewed the prior disc and has nothing to compare the new one to. 😐

To be safe, you should never watch a review of a film you’ve never seen. Everyone’s threshold for what’s a spoiler is different and those are very hard to navigate at times. I try not to go into specific details, but I will outline events and how they made me feel at times.

@@midlevelmedia i have seen the movie but i disagree with your assessment. The whole point of watching a movie review is to hear if its good or not. Historically Reviews aren’t for ppl to watch after they’ve already seen them its for before

@midlevelmedia I'm quite certain 90% or more of reviews are read or watched by people who have yet to see the movie. Should people also not read reviews for a restaurant or a theme park until after they've had the experience themselves? 🤔 To be fair though, the scenario on your channel is different. I'd say most people clicking on your 4k reviews have already seen the movie and are just trying to find out how the disc looks and sounds. If you weren't reviewing the actual disc hardly anyone would be interested and you'd get very little views. Giving your thoughts on a film during a 4k review is totally fine and to be expected, but I think you could practice up on making that section more brief with less implications of things that happen in the movie for the small portion of viewers who haven't seen it yet. Brief would also be much better for people who have seen it. We really don't need 10 minutes of you telling us how much you liked Chinatown. No offense intended, but your thoughts section almost always runs too long and overstays its welcome when most people are just trying to find out if they should grab the 4k. Again, I just skip that section entirely now as I'm sure many others do, but if you were a bit less self-indulgent and that section weren't so damn lengthy I think a lot more people would be willing to hear you out. Just a little constructive criticism. Hope you don't mind.

i MET BOTH FAYE DUNAWAY AND JACK NICHOLSON. she was best and nicest actress I ever met and I met over 400 celebs. I LOVE THIS MOVIE. Saw it in 1970s. or thereafter. I own the DVD and the bluray. I want the 4k.
