Chinatown: The Fu Manchu Complex

Behind the scenes of Daniel York's new production The Fu Manchu Complex performed at the Ovalhouse theatre. The play challenges the "Yellow Peril" racist stereotype and satirises the stories of Fu Manchu, one of the first fictional master criminals.

Interesting, but Black people had the US Civil War (300,000 lives) fought on their behalf, plus $22 TRILLION spent on civil rights since 1965; the British spent more on ending the slave trade than than they ever earned from it; and WWII might have had something to do with bad press for east Asians.

It’s a shame this play is not available anymore I would pay good money to watch it as I love detective stories and it’s a orientalist parody how cool.

nicely done. Fu Manchu has influence lots of villains. Lo Pan may as well be Fu Manchu. Fiendish Plot with Peter Sellers is in itself a nice send up of the notion. Christopher Lee played to role the same way he did Dracula. It is like what they say in the Lovecraft Country show. you can read or watch something like that, knowing it's flaws. That doesn't make you a bad person as long as you know not to act in that way. Any way nice thought on this play.
