The Indians in Kenya were very clever. They encouraged Kenya to complete the Mombasa to Nairobi and when from Nairobi to Kampala, Uganda the land price was exorbitant. They tried to scam China. It was not completed to Kampala, Uganda.

During 2018, On 22 July 2020, Mohammed Abdalla Swazuri, the chairman of National Land Commission, and Atanas Kariuki Maina, managing director of the Kenya Railways Corporation, were among 18 officials, businesspeople and companies arrested on corruption charges involving land allocation for the $3 billion rail line. Chinese workers still operate critical positions, even-though it was supposed to end in 2019. In 2019, the Kenya government forced all cargo in Mombasa to be handled by the rail company. The Chinese gets the bulk of income for ten years, according to the contract.
