you could use velcro straps instead of the binder clips. so just stick one of the velcro halves along the side of the pan and then sew the other half onto your bedding sheets, so its easy to remove and wash etc

didnt read all the comments but u mentioned ur unsure how to "attach" the fleece to the high sided pan. if you dont mind sewing alot then ur good to go lol. If u attach velcro to the inside rip at the top and a cm or 2 from the bottom and the same on the outer rim and under ur pan then sew on the velcro matching the area on the fleece and really make sure there sewed on or they will come off in the wash. it will help keep the corners in place and a nice snugg fit. very very nice set up and agreed the wheel has a big price tag but if u have ur chins in a common room, ull love the silence!!

Haha, i'm glad... and I hope so! I'm thinking of getting my chins from a breeder or a rescue. I KNOW never to get a chin from the pet stores. They treat them horribly and without care. I'm trying to convince my parents about getting me a chinchilla for christmas, yesterday I saw a listing online that came with the ferret nation cage you want, 2 female chins, and some useless plastic things. The best part is, ALL OF IT IS FREE, FREE!! I am really interested in it, and don't worry. I have been doing a lot of research about chins and know how to care for them. Wish me luck!

I'm thinking about doing as much as research as I possibly can about chinchillas and in the distant future get some if I feel they might be the right pet for me, but I have a passion for recreating natural scapes for pets (for example, fish... aquascaping) and I was wondering if it would be possible to create a very large enclosure (probably larger than one of the largest cages on the market... well... we will see there might be some sizes larger than my room XD) and I would like to mimic the cold desert environment they are from in the andes... instead of wooden unnatural ledges (although I definitely prefer your wooden than some others I've seen) I would like to construct secure rock formations using multiple rocks that are either from their environment or similar, they would be sound and secured by some sort of adhesive (was thinking maybe silicone since that's how fish tanks usually work, but if course there would be no exposed adhesive) so they can play and jump around on those and do everything I can to avoid any unnatural man made materials or at least where they aren't very easily detectable. I might not be able to do that with some things such as water, but I'll adjust my plans if need be for the safety and we'll being of the animal. Since they need cool environments, was thinking about making a small cave (where I can easily get to a chinchilla inside in case of emergency) system type thing to offer a cool place (was thinking maybe putting a slab of marble in it or something for cooling) and also for overall privacy, not to mention to prevent too much wasted space taken up by rock formations. Also, you said that dust baths can't be overdone, so that does mean that it is possible to have it as a part of the enclosure permanently? Could cactus be added safely somehow as long as the cage wouldn't be too cluttered? I would assume they aren't prone to falling but I still want to make sure lol. Is there possibly a safe substrate that is not specifically made for pets? If not I'm totally fine with that. Does the cage pretty much need to be completely covered in soft surfaces to prevent feet problems or is it just more easy to clean and trap moisture? I understand this plan may run into problems when it comes to cleaning but if I go through with this I will definitely have a larger than minimum sized cage that they can be in while I do some more intense cleaning. I was just asking because I love the idea. I love animals and learning/teaching about their environment so I'd love chinchillas to be a part of that, especially since they are faced by being endangered in the wild. Oh yeah, and I know they are expensive and so are all their needs, but I plan on money not being a problem and of course I wouldn't go through with it unless I'm sure I'll be able to provide for their needs stress free when it comes to money. Too many animals are pretty much thrown away for the lack of money to take care of them, and I will not be that type of person. Thanks

My Random Favorite Things I used the same screws, They are called hanger bolts and you can buy them online in a larger quantity for much less than home depot. I just googled hanger bolts and got several companies that sell them. Currently I have been using wood screws and washers. I just drill the pilot hole and screw the shelf on to the cage. It is harder to move them but it is cheap and easy to do.

Kara Linder yes, they are both males. They do not fight, they get along really well. When they are playing sometimes they will chase each other and try to mount the other (dominance thing from what I understand), but they have never actually had a fight.
