Thank you for reacting to Chinchilla again! I've become a massive fan of her talent and versatility over the last 6 months... Only bad thing i can say about it, is there isn't enough of her music out there...Yet! Lol, I do hear the Disney-esque undertones that you mentioned, and I agree, this isn't a "catchy" song... And for all the reasons you stated.. And again, agree totally that it is excellent, in part, because of that! This is one of my favorite performances of hers and yet it's not something I'd want to hear on the radio... It feels strange saying those things because I think I have a musical crush on her by this point and it feels like I'm betraying that somehow, but in reality, I'm just reaffirming it....i love it for the artistry.. The musicality.. the whole performance.. The whole artistry... Chinchilla is special and I love her lol... There, I said it haha. I appreciate your videos and I'm looking forward to more! I don't get Disney. Maybe it's the fairly understated female-voice-with-piano (along with the obviously theatrical wardrobe choice for the video) at the beginning that gives that Disney/theatre show idea that you're about to be sung a story.... but I reckon she quickly turns it into her own thing, with great use of dynamics going from playful whispers & creaks reminiscent of Björk, up to that Sia -esque belted E5 (I think) with vibrato to underline the "hell hath no fury like a woman scorned" line. Anyhoo whatever she did here, it's tremendous imho! To hell with "catchy" - I listen to this on the regular. But then, as you can maybe tell from my username, I'm a 30yr Soundgarden guy, so I grew up loving 7/4 quirky sh!t in weird tunings & whatnot, albeit fronted by one of the greatest vocalists of his generation. I also own all of Björk's albums- yip, even the properly weird experimental ones! As you hinted, & I'm in agreement, #FcukGenres - *excellence* shines thru. ;) p.s. the keys player should get some shine too for this "unplugged" arrangement, his choice of tone, & dynamic playing to match the vocal performance.

I'm not saying it sounds like a Disney song. I'm saying it evokes the same feeling as a song from a musical...with a massive twist in that she brings so much killer emotion to the table with it...which one would never find in a Disney song. At least not like THIS. lol

If you were going to put her on stage, she would fit perfectly with something Sondheim-esq. This could fit with a Sweeney Todd type show. But honestly, she can sing anything. I'm not sure what you've heard from her, but if you're looking for something that rattles around in your head, try, "Little Girl Gone," which is a kick-ass song that has grabbed mainstream people, too. And I love her live with Ren in, "How To Be Me."

Please don't misunderstand. It's a GREAT song, and I dig it! I'm just saying it doesn't have a catchy hook that I'm going to find myself singing in the shower. It's a performance designed to evoke a prescribed human response outside of the standard poppy nonsense that usually pollutes the airwaves. It's refreshing, and I love it!
