Just because a product is listed as having a particular rating, it ain't necessary so...

It only works to rated spec when used with a chinese power supply rated for 10A 😊

Thats Chinese "indicator smoke" which just lets you know you have successfully reached the max rating of the wire and thats there's nothing to worry about.

Ya, there's no hope for that gauge wire to pass 10 amps without it becoming a heating element and quickly melting. I have an assortment of these as well, and I have found that the wire to clip connection was made by just stripping about 1/8th (or 3mm) of insulation off, folding the exposed copper strands back onto the insulation, and then crimping the alligator crimp onto it, so, the elastic properties of the insulation further weaken the connection. I've just been going through them as I use a quantity of them, and uncrimping, stripping new bare wire, and soldering the wire to the clip (there's usually a small hole pas the crimp to do this with), adding some heat shrink for strain relief, and being VERY mindful to not pass more than a few amps of current into them for a short period. The good news is, they make a great fusible link if you need to keep what you are working on from getting damaged.

No, you must have misunderstood the description, they are 10 amp flexible fuses with rupture indicator! I bought some silicone insulated, 10 amp rated jumper cables with various connector combo's, like banana to croc etc. First thing I did was load test them, and they were actually ok, becoming just discernably warm after about 30 mins on test. Probably just lucky though!

I think we have all purchased from this store. Mostly crimped on the plastic. Aluminium wire, resistance about 2/3 ohms. I bet they sell millions of them to us gullible people. But we NEVER learn do we.

'10 amp' is probably the brand name as opposed to a statement of the current carrying capacity of the lead, you know how the Chinese marketing machine works! 🤣🤣🤣
@TonyAlbus
@TonyAlbus 2 жыл бұрын
The Clip itself maybe...not the wire.. and sometimes the crimp them, so after you put 2 Amps the crock just falls off. Quite some smoke Simon, hope you did not demage the PSU itself.

Lol, I’ve got some of them, always divide the rating by 10, so 1 amp… one of my leads had the croc clip fall off, I only used them for light duty hook ups, good demo though !

If you buy these from a local electronics supplier, the copper gauge is a little bit thicker, but those thicker ones can only handle 1,5A before they start getting very hot. So the chinese suppliers are a little bit optimistic with there ratings :-) The good thing is, you can use them to ignite the BBQ from a distance 😂
