I Had a friend , he passed several months ago , he converted a sewing commercial motor and foot pedal to his bead roller , using gear reduction , it worked very will . Point being it can be done with a small motor.

I got my nickname from my father , he had went to St Louis to see a stage play , Tobacco Road . It was about this hillbilly family in the early 40’s , the son was the lead character, so I became Dude . Definitely not some one you would want as a name sake, but at 75 I’m still Dude , totally not today’s meaning . It’s an old movie also funny if you like that sort of humor. The Dude

Excellent, thank you. I do have a couple of questions, as I do not know much about electricity: do the electrical components i.e. on/off; forward/reverse; variable speed; etc., come with the HF motor from the winch? it is hard to keep straight bead when cranking the bead roller manually.
@rdspeedfab
@rdspeedfab 3 жыл бұрын
Good questions. No the electronics are purchased separately. Check my other bead roller videos on my play list. I have links to purchase everything. It’s not hard at all to keep the line straight. I just turn the speed down and work it slowly. Thanks for watching!

Thanks for the info in this, and your other video. Have you measured the amperage for the motor you are using? I want to make sure I buy a big enough power supply.
@rdspeedfab
@rdspeedfab 2 жыл бұрын
I’m almost positive I used a 60 amp. One of my videos has links for what I used.
@TorquinDSL
@TorquinDSL 2 жыл бұрын
@@rdspeedfab Well, in your later video, the speed controller link is for a 20A model, and the power supply link is also for a 20A model, with larger power supply models being available for more money. I am not saying any of this is wrong, I just wanted to know if you have encountered any situation where you overloaded the components, if they ARE 20A components. That's why I asked if you had measured the current draw on the motor under "heavy" load, like beading 18 gauge metal. Thanks.
@rdspeedfab
@rdspeedfab 2 жыл бұрын
@@TorquinDSL haven’t measured the draw. But I’ve also had no issues. I’ll open it up tomorrow and take a look for part numbers. Sorry for any confusion.

@@rdspeedfab Did you ever get to looking into this? Also, how did you do the coupler? I bought that winch and it has a female splined section in the motor side. Did you just cut and weld the splined section from the spool side onto your bead roller shaft?
@rdspeedfab
@rdspeedfab Жыл бұрын
@@TorquinDSL hey there sorry about not getting back to you! Life gets in the way. It’s all 60 amp stuff. Still running strong. There is a video on how I made the union. It’s just like you thought, cut and weld.

Hi. Do you have some specification of the motor used? Perhaps a link? I also wonder if you think its strong enough for making a bead on steel sheet 1,0-1,2 mm?
@rdspeedfab
@rdspeedfab 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, it is a badland 2500 lb winch motor. You can find them on Amazon. The winch motor is geared very low and would not have a problem with thicker sheet metal, in my opinion. Thank you for taking the time to watch!

@@rdspeedfab I am the one who should say thank you. 😊 I have seen some people using DC motors and some using AC gearmotor with VFD (variable frequency drive). Ususlly DC winsch motors require a lot of ampere, perhaps 200A at 12VDC. Then i have to find a DC supply up to 200A? If not using a start batery for cars..
@rdspeedfab
@rdspeedfab 3 жыл бұрын
@@stefaneriksson47 that’s certainly a good option as well. Using the winch motor keeps the prices down. And I knew the torque would be good.

How did you adapt the winch motor output gear stub to the drive roller shaft on the bead roller? I took my HF winch motor apart and it has a stub gear interface to the drive ring on the winch. I assume that use used the original sub gear.

Hey Sam, I cut and welded it. My other video may show it a bit more clearly.

The other vid does not show it very well. I have my winch already with the electronics on the way. Today I am going to work on the stand and reinforce the frame. I am not sure how i want to make the drive/roller union yet. Can you get some more detail in this critical areaplease?
