Hello Manual, I'm sorry to say that I got a Chinese clone, before I realized that they were in fact a clone of your and PE1NNZ's work. I will be purchasing a real version to support you and the original developers of the uSDX. I am waiting for the final version to be released, and hopefully, there will be an official supplier of real, pre-built radios, or maybe complete kits? (I think this is what is needed to make this an extremely popular radio!)... I think it is important to note that not all countries can easily and cheaply build a kit that requires components to be sourced individually. Sourcing electronic components here in Australia is a NIGHTMARE and very expensive - it makes the Chinese clones actually look like a bargain in comparison (yes, under $200 AUD delivered is still amazingly cheap for the Chinese clone radios), so hopefully a legitimate "one stop shop" for your real radios can become a reality? The other piece of feedback I would like to give, is that if your case design can perform like a true "hand held" / walkie talkie configuration (as the Chinese clone can do with it's solid SO239 connection on top, internal battery option, and a well placed PTT button and microphone), then it becomes a truly unique radio that will attract a very large, new customer base! The world needs handheld QRP HF radios! (I hope this feedback is useful - good luck and I look forward to purchasing your official radio.) 73

Hello Manuel, you have perfectly summarize the situation . The main extent is really great that this kind of radio will be available for everybody and i like the idea but behind the scene it is another story . This product from aliexpress is clearly miss some basic radio engineering features and in addtion the quality control is not able to provide a reliable radio. Some radio will work but there is a good chance will be a lot of defective radio or with poor performance. The spectral purity is clearly an issue but not only and as a reminder us amateur radio we are suppose to transmit with a clean radio regarding the harmonics and you are deemed to own the schematic from the equipement. Regarding the financial aspect and as a amateur radio i will never buy this kind of product and prefer to homebrew all my equipment. Building the uSDX is just a piece of cake and you do not need to be an engineer for that . Unfortunately Manuel, nowadays most of amateur radio are just passive consummers and as a tool they use credit card and are not interested to build something. Needless to say there is poor chance most of them will not be able to repair any complex defect from the aliexpress product. Your new kit seems to be so great and i will for sure move to this new release when available. Take care Manuel and hopefully see you soon on the air. 73s F5NPV Didier

I can feel your pain in all of this but would make a few comments based on a working life in the technology sector at a commercial level. I hope you take these comments in the right way but if they upset you please feel free to delete. Firstly vacuum's have a way of filling themselves. Your genius unfortunately created a vacuum in an area of the ham radio marketplace that was unfilled by traditional manufacturers of equipment and therefore offered opportunity to the Chinese to fill. Naturally being commercially astute they did. Pricing - they are in fact adhering to accepted pricing policies (they could have gone higher) , giving themselves headroom before competition kicks in. Quality - this is where a rush to market/price point has it's obvious downside. The Chinese are capable of high quality but it takes time, resource and money. Vacuum's do not wait so the choice was speed or quality. Speed won (nothing stays secret so speed is essential). That their rigs work is undeniable. Could they (and will they) be better? Probably. Open source is a double edged sword. Me I would have searched for a commercial partner before any release of the design. That way you would have stayed in control of all the issues that are so clearly important to you (and most Hams !). 73 and good luck.

Hi Manuel, Firstly, your rant is not a rant it is a show of passion for your work.... and secondly your English is excellent today.... but please rest assured that you will overcome these issues and you already can see that their are benefits to your work... it is especially annoying that these cut throat merchants jump onto a bandwagon and take it for a ride and make money from others skill and desire and then they dont even leave a footnote saying this is the work of someone else and not giving praise or acknowledgment to the original designers and inventors... but you seem to have taken this and used it to an advantage and I am sure that you will move on from this and explore even more into this side of this wonderful hobby.... Of course when you do the final final version... it will be a success and I am again more than sure that in the future you will design and produce an even better radio... probably for less money as well... I have no doubt the chinese version is lower quality, but its available right now, completed, working, with built-in battery. Instead of getting emotional, get better at providing what people want. If you, or someone, made a "real" completed usdx, its obvious people would pay 140-200 for one. Find a business partner that understands that instead of giving up on the project.
@kb5elv2 жыл бұрын
Couple things. Most importantly, I don't think he's "given up" on the project. What I heard from his commentary was that once the final sandwich design is completed, the project would have reached maturity. When the project reaches maturity, on we go to other projects. After all, his goals for the project are clearly not your goals for the project. I think he's more upset by the inferior quality and a price point that does not reflect quality engineering. I think as that would upset me, too. OK though, if you want to buy a product that was first made without permission and contrary to licensing, second with parts substitutions that didn't take into account changes needed to maintain technical integrity, thus rendering a substandard product with unacceptable and subpar performance (see his other video where he measures efficiency and harmonic suppression), that's certainly your right as a consumer. It is, however, a little over the top for you to tell him how he should feel about it or react to it. Oh, forgot to mention: an assembled radio would, according to Manuel's summation of similar requests, be more bureaucracy, paperwork, and administrative cost than he is interested in putting into his hobby. You know, thing he does for fun. So, again, his goals aren't your goals. Vy 73, de KB5ELV

I think what you said was well within your rights to say what you thought and how you felt I would not feel bad about that in fact I will not buy one of the Chinese copies and I would support you in that 100%. can you give me a licensed dealer who would sell the units fully assembled because I will go and purchase one in the very near future? Is there any way I can support you in what you are doing? 73's and Good Luck. ZL1BMA David Grey

73 DG5YHS Maik...

I love the concept. I am on disability. I e got 5 herniated discs. Here's the problem for me. Putting one together for me would be a nightmare because my hands shake. I live on a strict budget because of my income isn't in a posoto buy big name brands. I need it pre made and it has to be good first time. So I'm asking where the best place to get that. The hobby really helps with depression for me. I have been watching your videos and think you two guys are awesome. Thanks for the hard work. John Lennon KO4OEN

Sorry to hear they copied your design ( poorly to by the sounds of it) I hope you can bring yours to market perhaps with a patent to prevent this . I'm a believer of you get what you pay for , I try not to buy this type of inferior product . 73 and good luck

Because they are not honoring the clauses of the license in your design, your country (and others) should ban the importation of these radios. But, I guess you'd have to hire a lawyer, or fine one who was incinced enough to do it pro-bono.

Well the situation is now, like it is... I do not suspend my happyness on those chinese clones. I tried to inform people and with (tr)uSDX we created an alternative to the chinese rigs. In the end it´s just a hobby.....

Bei der aktuellen Chip-Krise sind die 50€ Zeiten wohl vorbei.... Meine allererste Sammelbestellung habe ich noch zu dem Preis hin bekommen. Danach nicht wieder.

While I understand your feelings, your making an issue of the price they charge rings hollow, pricing is about a lot of factors - If you can get your product to the market for even a slightly higher price, with good enough quality, then I will buy from you. But, the world of commerce has been awash with this sort of thing forever, and your fighting the tide. I do thank you for what you have done, and I hope you see a satisfaction and reward for your effort. The Chinese are actually giving you a compliment.

Не чего ругать китайцев, молодцы они. Пусть воруют и выпускают, зато легко можно купить. А вам ведь сложно даже на сообщение, запрос ответить.

I find your attitude amusing to say the least!!!... you openly admitted yourself in one of your early video's having stolen the idea from han summers, and developed it slightly changed some things. So come on get real, if you do it, others will follow for sure.

The difference is: We asked Hans, if we could do it, had his permission and even had his support along the way (see QCX-Mini to uSDX Modification). Difference between "can I borrow your stuff" and just take it. If you don´t know the difference, my words to describe your attitude would be censored by KZbin....

Hi. I'd have at one time built my own but poor close vision has put me off. I looked and looked for an assembled genuine one with little success so I made the mistake of buying a Chinese one, it receives OK but on TX it either doesn't work or is dreadfully distorted, I got a 50% refund from the seller and have the radio. Can you please help me with where to buy an assembled radio that is genuine or even a kit that I can give to a friend to make up, he's got better vision than me Regards Trevor 2M0GZQ 73s

Im realy sorry, but i now own 3 of the Chinese clones, the reason for this is that your original tr usdx starts to get expencive to get here in Norway, it also cost about 160 dollar now for me to get here, and its waiting time for it since i cant build it myself, the display on the tr usdx is also to little for my eyes, and its a 5 band tranciver, its just a few minor things, but it so much easyer to just order a Chinese one to "test" for new hams. I want to pay more for your original one if you can make one with a little bit bigger screen, i also wanted to buy the original Qmx from Qrp Labs, but i dont even get a respond on my email from that company, and its a long waiting list for that one also, so i just ordered a Mchf that did come from China to my door in Norway in just 5 days, i wished i could buy the original stuff that easy, but i know and understand that you and the others that make original projects in good quality do this on your spear time and put alot of time and mony and pride in your work, its just so much easyer for the newcommer in the hobby ro just get something that just promisse alot of good things like all mode 8 band-10 band. And one more thing, please if you can, do make a aluminium case for the Tr-usdx. With 40-10m band all mode, with some more things for Cw mode, a little bigger screen 2.8" maybe, maybe skip the speaker to get some more space in the tranciver, some bigger knobs for people with big hands, and a little more internal memory for software and i think you have a winner, not just for the Scouts and newbies, but for everyone, and yes we will pay good money for this, its better to give you 200 bucks, and not the Chinese guy that dont care about other things then money...Best regards from Norway. Strange logic: You had the money to buy 3 chinese clones, while each costs roundabout 120-160US$. One assembled (tr)uSDX from our trusted Seller Sunny costs 138$..... However: It was never meant to be sold as assembled unit. It was meant to provide a cheap entry level DIY Kit for 50$ and to encourage people to start building themselves. If every HAM only uses assembled ready to go stuff, we hams are no longer the future innovators of technology. Regarding your other requests: I will probably not design another radio again, as the post-work for (tr)uSDX is still on-going. 2 years after release, I´m getting still the same, if not more questions about it, as on day 1. 73 Manuel; DL2MAN

@@dl2man I did not know about the Tr-usdx when i got them, i cant build them myself, so im sorry about that, i just tryed to say that i want to buy from you and not the chinese..but ok, i was thinking about getting 2 of your radios now in high and low band..but yeah. Best regards
