A leak with would make the heated air stink of diesel fume.
The blow test was conducted. The only leak left after reseal of the obvious flaws of these units was the motor snout.
This made it airtight and solved the smell

Thank you! I also have a smell form my heater but haven’t stripped it down yet. So you were getting diesel fumes coming through this fan before? Or actual unburnt diesel?
@Veikra
@Veikra Жыл бұрын
I thought it was diesel fumes but turns out it was unburnt getting burnth on the unit, or back tracking to that spot once warmed up. I was searching for exhaust gas leaks for a week then decided to risk taking the snout apart

my heater glow plug wires that go through the red groumet slide through it too easily & fumes can back track through the wires/groumet, plus the red groumet also does'nt seal air tight. others have found the units smelling & cure it with gasket sealer around the groumet & wire holes. easy enough to remove whenever needing strip down, but at least stops the smell. i only got the smell on start up priming before the unit started combustion.

I’ve got a vevor one where the hole, for the glow plug grommet, is not directly over the glow plug. Cheap chinese, but I can cope with it. I can weld it up and re-machine, if necessary. I’ll likely do that if, and when, I need to strip it down for some other reason.😊

Nice man, thanks for the video. When I've disassembled mine, I wasn't sure how to remove that wheel without destroying it. I'll do the same when I'll get better (got a very nasty flu since yesterday) and will report back to you Hope I'll fix mine too :) cheers

been using the little heater daily now. My only gripe is its power. At power level 1 it's too powerful and I have to turn it off or the temperature inside keeps climbing !

My heater made a awful smell and a smoke cloud. It happened with a code 6 shut down. Speed sensor for fan speed failed. So thing shuts down with out burn off and purge. The fumes come out the air intake tube for burner.

the air intake tube for the burn chamber or the heating chamber?

There ias no need for any seel on the shaft , centifugal force of the spinning prevents any leakage along the shaft , I know what you are doing is well intentioned but it will not make the slightest difference . How do i know this; I am a time served heating engineer.

If I needed to take mine apart, I would have replaced those chinese motor bearings for more reliable (and longer lasting) options as a routine, irrespective of age or usage. At least if you need to change them in the future, you will find it easy.🙂 Some fan assemblies appear to have been balanced, but I suspect many are not. Cheap chinese heaters, again.
@Veikra
@Veikra Жыл бұрын
if you find a source of those bearing it would be nice to know. Mine didnt seem to be balanced. If it had been i would have marked it. I bought a spare motor and fan assembly for 15$ so I have a spare if it gets noisy

@@Veikra The bearings are fairly standard issue. Mostly, I simply take one along to my bearing supplier and ask for pair of good ones. They know the difference between cheap and good. I don’t compromise where bearings are concerned. Somewhere on the ‘net there will be a discussion on them. The bearings will be marked with their type number. Nothing complex on these simple little machines. Problems usually only arise because they are cheap chinese heaters - sub-standard components or shoddy assembly (with no quality control) - or because people try to run them on fuel they were not designed for. Diesel is the designated fuel - it’s either too subtle (hidden in clear view in the name for some to comprehend) or people try to use non-standard fuel (some can, but they do need to know a bit more about what they are doing). 28s kerosene (a different distillation fraction than diesel) does work, but with some reduced energy efficiency, but any further refined kerosene is likely to scrap the pump in short order. People use 28s kerosene because it is a cheaper fuel (probably less refined) than diesel. I expect the extra cost of diesel, these days, is because the sulphur content has to be reduced for most applications - such as ultra-low sulphur DERV.

@@oliver90owner Are those motors easy to disassemble? I havent tried yet. im never using kerosene since I cant find it cheaper than road diesel. Im still trying to find a place to buy small quantity of offroad diesel
@oliver90owner
@oliver90owner Жыл бұрын
@@Veikra Yes, they are easy to fix. No more difficult than most motors of this type. There is now no such thing as off-road diesel in the UK. Only agriculture and a few other uses are permitted to use anything other than the same fuel as the ‘road-taxed’ fuel - which is taxed twice (fuel tax and full VAT rate on top) by the government. I don’t know where you are but many substitute ‘central heating oil’ or ‘furnace oil’ for diesel, in their heaters if the price differential makes it cheaper to run these heaters. Central heating (furnace oil) is 28s Redwood kerosene. Several factors need to be considered before moving away from the manufacturer’s recommendation.
