Beautiful story but also think about how they came with nothing was helped by a Black man then was able to overcome the racial disparages (probably from the same system that was racist towards them initially) as we still face today many years later, bought the property as well as one next to it and within a generation was able to acquire enough wealth and value to then donate 5 million dollars. Like a diamond with many facets, a single act of kindness has many benefits. This genuine act of kindness by a Chinese American family was rooted in nothing more than an extension of gratitude for the grace a Black family showed them at a time of need in the 1930’s. Hopefully, all Americans can see this as the “true future” of us being kind to one another in our country. Though I must say how “weird” it feels to see two people … who “knew” two people … who were slaves!!! My mind is blown by that.
