The financial crisis caused by the economic downturn is becoming a major issue that the Chinese communist government urgently needs to address to maintain stability in China. With a significant fiscal deficit and no new sources of income, local governments resort to fines or price hikes to increase income. And the source of this income is, of course, ordinary Chinese people.

I genuinely feel bad for the people who just want to live their life with their families comfortably without interference by the government. But the people who see everything going on around them, are able to cognitively realize what's going on and what the causes are, and STILL support the CCP, I have no sympathy for them.

Same with India which penalizes hefty bucks for seat belts and all other stuffs. Ten or twenty tickets may come closer to a used motor bike's cost itself. Even SBI which is a government run Bank penalized a hefty low balance charge from all it's existing accounts which was a cheap trick to collect a substantial income to the bank.

Stagflation is starting to hit China. The Soviet Union also went through this. In order to try to counter this, the central Soviet government subsidized the wages of the urban proliteriat, but did not try to deal with the root cause of the problem economically. So people bought bread at non-inflated prices but the flour supply did not increase, so bakers quickly ran out of bread. People in the end queued for hours or even days for a loaf of bread. Shortages occurred in most kinds of consumable products and most shop shelves were empty. The hyper-expensive black market flourished (for those who could afford it) even when the Soviet government tried cracking down on it. Like all "good" dictatorships, the Soviet Union tried autarky, but could not manufacture all househould products and cars at the same quality and quantity. Without free markets, most Soviet citizens waited for years to own a car, even when a partial down payment initially occurred.

For perspective, 1 Euro buys almost 7.78 Yuan and 1 US Dollar buys 7.22 Yuan. The median income in China is something like 55,000 Yuan per year. That's slightly less than $8,000 a year. And, sure, the economic data available is problematic and misrepresents the true economic conditions in China. But do you think the CCP is understating the economics here or overstating them? If we pretend the reported median is correct and it IS actually 55,000 Yuan per year, that means half the population live on less than 150 Yuan a day. Keep that number in mind when you hear the prices have gone up. A 5 or 10 Yuan increase represents a HUGE increase. (And then consider the median income reported is probably overstated by about 30%!)

A median income doesn't mean anything in a country like China. You still have 600 million of rural people. Many live more selfsufficient so they don't use money for trade. And Shanghai und Bejing are fucking expensive and Minimum Wage is higher then unemployment social Germany now (800 china vs 550 Germany)

50 yen is 33 cents, but that's Japanese currency. 50 yuan is around 7 USD.
