I sing with my city's Taiwanese Choral Society. I learn the Mandarin and Taiwanese songs with a diction coach from our group. I will tell you what The Kiffness has done here is not easy, especially if he doesn't speak Mandarin. This language has complex sounds not found in English or other Western languages. FYI, this opera is about the story of Chen Shimei and Qin Xianglian. Chen Shimei spent years of hard work to study in order to get good result on Imperial examination which normally leads to good career in government and well reputation. When he succeeded, the emperor granted him a marriage with the princess. He accepted it and secretly discarded his family and wife in home town who supported him for many years. His wife Qin Xianglian then went for the famous judge Bao Zheng, asking for justice. Bao Zheng is famous for helping people against rich and powerful people, but this is a difficult case since he's dealing with the most powerful people in the country. This part of the lyric is sang by Bao Zheng where he read out the plaint on the court in the face of Chen Shimei.

Bao Zheng decides that Chen Shimei should be punished by death, however the emperor orders him to reverse his verdict, Bao Zheng does not listen to emperor and decides that is not fair and continues with Chen Shimei punishment, after that Bao Zheng is also punished with a death penalty for breaking emperor’s word.

Karate is not from Hong Kong, but from the small islands of Okinawa, far, far away south from rest of Japan, like how Hawaii is far, far away West from rest of America. Karate was originally written 唐手 (It means "Chinese Hand." cuz it was first taught by a visiting Chinese official to the Kingdom of Ryukyu that was in modern day Okinawa), but later when Japanese culturally appropriated it in the 1920s they forced the spelling to change to "空手" ("Empty Hand") because they were embarrassed to leave any traces of anything "Chinese" while they were planning genocide on those who were too inferior to have taught them for millennia. Not like Japan still treated Okinawans good even in the 21st century, for a long time Okinawans were prevented from getting jobs, had all the cons of having military bases around them dumped in Okinawa (70% of American bases are dumped in Okinawan because Tokyo politicians ignored the Okinawans), and even strawman cliches like "good Japanese guy uses Judo skills to defeat evil Karate user" in Japanese popular media were around for a long time. Japan's most famous popstar, Namie Amuro, being Okinawan, refused to sing the wartime Japanese national anthem when requested by show writers (think of Amuro as Japan's Michael Jackson). Because see, Okinawa is like Japan's version of Hawaii, except the process of invading and taking over it was 100 times worse. ("Kara" meant "China" at first, but became Japan's go-to term for all things foreign back then. Even in the 200 years of civil war in the 16th century, Japan was selling off loads of Japanese women to overseas brothels usually in China and Southeastern Asia and even eventually to Australia, to earn money to buy guns and gunpowder from Portuguese for warmongering samurai to better kill each other off. These women eventually earned the derogatory nickname "Karayuki-san" which you can look up. It means "Miss Gone-to-China") Japan killed a lot of native Okinawans through over taxation and exploitation for 4 centuries, and there are numerous records of ppl killing women and children to reduce headcount so they can be taxed less by Japan, (Japan was no joke to live in either, peasants got 70% tax rate because of samurai oppression, where as many as every peasant household every 3 years killed their 1 baby to reduce mouths to feed in rituals called Mabiki where they excused infanticide as "not murder because babies aren't fully human yet," whereas neighboring countries all had about 25% tax rate, which was also the average in Europe at the time). Japan also liked using Okinawans as cannon fodder in WW2 especially, telling lies that Americans will rape all their kids if they ever let Americans take a bit of land. When Okinawa was taken (until 1970) the Okinawans were commanded by Japanese to all commit seppuku for the god that lives in Tokyo Palace, after they killed all their children to spare them the fate of being raped by Americans. But instead the Okinawans were surprised that contrary to Japanese lies, the landing American forces gave them food and medical aid. The Okinawans took them to the graves of the children they were told to kill and wept tears of blood and cursed the *Japanese. Who turned out, were raping the Okinawan kids as sex slaves anyway.* (Look up the most well-known case, the Himeyuri Students, that Japan tries to cover up) No wonder when Japan's Prince Akihito and his wife visited them in 1970s right after America decided to give Okinawa to Japan again (much to their protest), there were lots of death threats sent the Prince's way and lots of people were angry at the news in general, and they'd rather have his father emperor Hirohito come so they can murder him in broad daylight. There are also growing sentiments of independence among the Okinawans these days. At least they didn't get the Ainu tribe treatment and were wiped out to about 14,000 people (the rest, like for 2000 years, kept running northward to cold unfarmable land the Japanese weren't too eager to rob yet. In the 19th century this happened again and they ran from the northern island of Hokkaido, and sailed away to Russia's Kuril Islands, where the residents still hate Japan). There are still about 2.5 million Okinawans. (Or the treatment of Ezo, Kumaso, Hayato tribes, where there are not even any survivors, nor even any "reservations" where they survive. They were all eliminated by Japanese settlers and official military excursions led by the samurai and the shogunate. Actually all of east asia were using straight swords until horsemen from the steppes introduced curved swords, but in the case of Japan, the Ezo introduced curved swords in their war of resistance to Japanese invaders)

Loved this one (albeit for different reasons than the other songs / performances that came before it.) The highly esteemed Opera Singer / Grandpa was working hard to teach this song to his granddaughter. David, I saw that your lyrical commitment and vocal intensity expended while working to do justice to this musical collaboration matched that of the Senior Opera Singer teaching his granddaughter. While this required more effort on both sides, I think it was a resounding success! I am also seeing that with every musical collaboration that you do, like anything I guess, you are able to take on harder challenges. I am sure that within each musical exercise you are coming to understand the task at hand at a higher, more insightful level. You are incredibly creative, as is the team of musicians and singers, techno and video wizards etc. that you are working with. I realize that I am learning to listen carefully and able to ascertain opportunities for new sounds to be captured and utilized in an entertaining and intriguing way that challenges one's perceptive abilities. And then, when one just manages to adapt to the new sounds and can accept them as interesting, fun, even uniquely precious and/or powerful...The Kiffness delivers new, unexpected and unforeseen layers of musical interpretation, rhythmic and lyrical creation sound in an harmonious, exciting and totally new way! Play, happiness, bonding, learning, creativity and successful collaboration packaged and performed perfectly! I truly hope you are plqnning to tour across Canada. And please do not stop until you have--at least--visited us and performed here in Calgary, Alberta Canada. Cheers friend! Сама так делаю🤣. Понятия не имею, что за текст, но воспроизведу интонации и речь очень точно. Это не так сложно, как кажется. Но с Кифом, конечно, не сравнить. Киф - гений👍❤️❤️❤️

А тут именно китайский - это что-то запредельное. Хотя, действительно, повторение - мать учения. И все же, думается, Кифф ролик делает отдельно от сведения самих звуков. На самом деле это довольно сложно, даже имея такую машинку, как у него. AKAI-MPX, имею в виду. Знаю, поскольку сам звукоинженер.
