Today I'm going to tell you the story of Drawing A Snake with Feet, hope you can understand Chinese language and culture better and use Chinese proverbs in your study.
👉 画蛇添足(Huà Shé Tiān Zú) - Chinese Idiom
Literally means drawing a snake with feet.
Actually means ruin the effect by adding sth. superfluous.
Examples:
1. 不要画蛇添足!
Don’t gild the lily.
2. 对一个这样漂亮的女孩来说，化妆简直就是画蛇添足。
For such a beautiful girl to use make-up would be to gild the lily.

Firstly, you and your lessons are awesome. These videos are very helpful and useful for me as a Chinese student. But, I watched the video carefully, and I think I spotted one mistake at 2:44 the fourth character was dì but below was written de, but the girl pronounced it as "ne". The sentence is Tā gāoxing de. ( I don't want to sound rude ), maybe was a occasional mistake, maybe from the fact being in hurry. I hope to receive an answer and thank you very, very, very much for your videos. You're greattttt!

Thanks for your comment, Oljan. 地 is a polyphone, which has two pronunciations “de” and “dì”. As an auxiliary word to modify the following verbs, its correct pronunciation should be “de”. By the way, we once published a video about Chinese polyphones, hope it can help you. kzbin.info/www/bejne/qXm3dJSmbtuNY8k When 地（de） is used as an auxiliary word, it is pronounced quick and soft, so you hear it like a “ne” sound.
