I don't have an answer to your question. I cannot be bothered to care about the moral aspect of knife purchases. I have clones, named brands and no names. If there is a knife I want, I buy it. I will try and find a deal or check the used market if it is expensive. It that's not an option, look to the clones. My everyday work knife that I rely on, I want that to be a good trustworthy knife. If its just for the collection to play with, don't care if its real or fake, USA or China.

Kershaw is owned by Kai, a Japanese company.. I bought a few of the Chinese versions of both USA models and China models. They are great and I struggle to tell the difference between the real and the "fake".

I wear a Casio watch lol. So really, guys nit picking knives from China or American companies, which makes knives in CHINA? If it's a good knife... Get it!!! I started with Keshaw got me a Leek mad in America back in the day and I honestly didn't know about knives back in 2008-2010 either.. I migrated to Civivi and then to Kizer and I LOVE Kizer the best! They're made in China but I don't care at all!!! Nobody pays my bills! On KZbin all I see is steel snobs and knives e brand snobs, like crazy!!

I'm going to be that guy who says "it depends" lol, but I've been saying that for a long time and way before I heard it (or analogous ones) popularized on youtube. 1-If its just to test and see if the size and weight fits the purpose of one that you're looking at before spending a good bit on than cheap knock offs definitely help the decision making process. 2-If its just for a beater/common use/light duty stuff where quality doesn't matter as much, and is still safe to use (ie folder lock up) while still having a design you like/want is another good reason to not spend big bucks. Where I say the expensive one is worth getting is when its for hard use, remote use, or use where life/limb is at stake if it fails. A second could arguably be if you want to test to see if a certain steel type is something you like. Its hard to have any confidence that a cheap knife actually has the type of blade steel thats claimed...especially since most people don't have the required equipment to test steel types. Ive got a Benchmade Bugout knock off claiming to have a s30v blade that I picked up for $5-6 just to test size per part 1, it could barely cut paper out of the box and definitely could NOT shave. Sharpening it and seeing how it takes an edge is the closest I have to checking for steel type claims but for that price I can't see it being much different or far off from aus8 or maybe even aus4.

1. Most of the prices from reputable/original manufacturers are inflated a lot more then the labor/material cost, some even say made in USA but have parts outsorced from china. 2. Your not taking money from the reputable manufacturers because: - If you buy a fake as a test before purchasing the real one, you have the money and will eventually support the original maker. - If you don't have the money and want a fake/clone, you would never buy the original anyway, so they wouldn't make money off you regardless. - Chinese knives are usually beaters that have worse steel and need sharpening more often. 3. If you want some of the better knife that don't have fake branding, try to buy the chinese ones like: Ganzo, Sanremu, Ruike, TWOSUN, Petrified Fish, and CH Knives. In conclusion, buy the knives you like. If you like the Chinese fakes, consider buying the real deal since it's probably better made. Don't let knife snobs stop you from trying things out. Also there are probably more people with gastation knives then fake/clones in the world.

I have many, many knives in the hundreds. And I have American knives that have failed and have Chinese knives that are strong. So don't label knives by their Nation

The real answer is that the price difference between Chinese and American knives can be 10 times the price. So, buying a Chinese knife does not take the money away from American companies if no one can afford to higher prices. Some of this can be material costs, not just labor. I doubt that the copies will use the same grade of steel that are in the originals. Regardless what is advertised or printed on the blade, will anyone know? Maybe when the knife needs to be sharpened twice a day, rusts, or breaks it will be evident. IT'S THE CHEAP KNIFE OR NO KNIFE for many. I'm wondering when we'll start to see Chinese copies of Chinese knives! There are exellent knife companies in China too.

I have zero problem with Chinese knives. The difference probably comes down to blade steel and build quality. Possibly just paying for a name. I simply cannot afford american made knives.
