Kali is not a self defense martial art, it's an offensive combative martial art with intent to damage, disable, and or give the oponent the final kill. When we were kids, my grandpa taught us the basics, and the first one he taught us was in the close contact just step on the oponent's feet with whole body weight and quickly give the oponent combination of punches. He taught us too to punch the arm muscle close to the armpit that could induce pain and may possibly dislocate armpit joint, just like you see in the video. Saved me from bullies😊😎

Whether in training or actual fight, Kali is just too fast for Kung Fu because it's a close quarter combat designed to kill, maim, disable and mutilate the enemy. Kali is so brutal to be compared with any martial art as it is also designed in wielding a sword, knife, lance, stick, pole or just about anything, combining both offense and defense, with the intent to instantly kill. A street fighter who has unluckily chanced upon a passing kali practitioner must have already been hacked, stabbed and bleeding to death before realizing what had just happened. It's because situational awareness is key in kali and practitioners are trained to react with deadly response. This martial art was designed by ancient Filipinos to counter the weapon superiority of foreign invaders.

You can see the major differences in the style of the arts between the two. For this demonstration, Kung Fu is always trying to force a distance in order to get away from the fight. For Kali, which is I think the point of the art, is to always have the close encounter when dealing a problem. In Kali, creating space is a form of stalemate or a chance to run away. But when stuck in a corner or a small alley way, getting in close quarter is the best chance to fight for Kali. With that said, they are 2 different styles when dealing a fight! For me, I think Kung Fu is a good way to really get away from a fight, especially when you just want to create some distance, run away, and not deal with it. Kali deals the problem in close quarters, which has a chance of getting hurt in the process; hence, a last resort when stuck in a corner. Certainly, Kali can be effective in distance fighting, especially when you have weapons. I'm just assuming, for the sake of the demonstration shown, that it is only a hand-to-hand combat.

I was aware of how kali was similar to krav maga and silat but I never thought to really compare it against traditional Chinese martial arts. Well, this clip has me convinced that kali's natural flexibility has an edge over the Chinese martial arts techniques used in this clip. I am, however, also interested to see how kali stacks up against bajiquan or even wing chun. I'll drop by Paul's channel next.

I think the hook sweep won’t be fast enough for the elbow because the “block” of kali will add momentum to your kick. Basically you need to stop the momentum before you can hook sweep.

Kungfu will never win against kali. Chinese lost in Korean War against Philippines. Where there was a time they run out of ammunition. They waited at night and did hand to hand combat. The whole war. 4,000 filipino against 25,000-40,000 Chinese. Around around 24 died filipino and injury 70-100. Chinese lost 8,000 soldiers and thousands of injured

I'm Chinese and started with different forms of Gung Fu. Which martial is the best one in the world? The best one is the one which works best for you. I like Wing Chun AND Kali. The Chinese and Filipinos'' have been trading for millenniums and I suspect there were a lot of bad deals back in the day. Maybe that's why I see a lot of similarities between the two in empty hand. I like Silat a lot too... but it's all good and we can all learn from each other. Did you know that the oldest Chinatown in the world in in Manila?

Do you think that when the Shaolin Monks created Kung Fu, there were movies or that those fighters were actors? No, of course. There are many movies where Kung Fu is shown in a distractive way, but that doesn't mean it's only good in movies. Don't speak when you don't even practice that art.

I'd never raise my foot above the waistline in a real fight, not good return on investment. Win chun: step into the punch while blocking and punching to the jaw, all 3 moves at the same time, and could potentially end that fight in 2 seconds or less. Keep it simple stupid.

To clear the questions, kali is a martial arts and more efficiently used back days for a street fight(the basics) or like a way to kill the opponent as fast as possible not giving your enemy any time to the a counter attack or block the hits/punch/weapon and mainly train and use as a combat attack.

From this video, I think Kali came out ahead.. though Jake and Kung Fu may well come out ahead in any other exchange. (Particularly if we just say 'Kung Fu' which encompasses so much!) Particularly, the strike deflection combined with limb immobilization (striking the bicep and the like).. though to avoid some of Jake's strikes, the Kali requires a lot of successful evasive footwork whereas Jake's strikes were his defenses for the most part. Even still, the odds of getting in there and owning a street fight once you incapacitate the arms and start raining blows on the head are pretty decent.. the spinning/sweeping kicks could end the fight if they hit, but if they're caught, anticipated or miss, they open up the possibility to have the supporting leg kicked out / broken, the leg caught, or the kick evaded followed by a window where the opponent can close/attempt a strike while the spin is completed. You've both trained enough and both arts have enough techniques that I think it would come down to who had more practical training rather than which art is 'better'.

I think this is the best martial art video i've seen in my entire life. No exaggeration, no bullshit. Why? It does not only give me the idea of what the topic, Kung-Fu vs. Kali, is all about but the presentor/s also demonstrate it. The best part is in here 10:14 where they both show the advantage of one over the other, how to counter it, the alternative move if this one action is taken instead of the other one, and among others. They simply shown that there is no martial art that is superior than the other one. The superiority of one MA is determined to whoever execute it better. Meaning, it depends on the person. Good job.

Is there any groundwork in Kung fu
@Moneyblueprint16 жыл бұрын
Empathy DC yes a little bit but our stance work is pretty good so we don’t train it a lot cuz we don’t get on ground a lot
@ZenDragonYoutubeChannel6 жыл бұрын
Depends on what style you train, I head of dog style kung fu groundwork. In the system I've trained, the groud work is limited, so when I'm sparring I use kung fu and if it goes to the ground (which typically does happen eventually) I revert to some BJJ basics (like pulling guard, guilotine, triangle, bridging up for a reversal and such). Now that's for sparring, for self defense I might go more animal style kung fu vs the throat or eyes, or eventually something from krav maga (which I just started training). If you wanna see some animal style sparring with striking and grappling, I can link you to a video with it :) It is true that kung fu focuses on stable stances like Prying Mow said, but it's never a good strategy to assume you can control what's going to happen and dictacte the distance and such, especially if it's self defense where you're being attacked and not sparring or even a planned fight where you get to square off. :)

I can’t speak about the Kali shown here, but the “Kung fu” is anything but authentic, genuine, or real. It looks more like a poor boxing style parry full of flying elbow disease and some TKD or kickboxing style kicking. None of the actual strengths of any legitimate style of Kung Fu are showcased here. You mention animal styles, such as mantis, tiger, monkey, and crane, but where are they? Where is the 5 element theory, bridge control, or trapping? Where is the unification of your legs, waist, spine, and arms in your blocking and striking? What are the 4 gates? Real Kung fu has these things and real Kung fu masters use and explain them.
