Y'all got parts of the story wrong. The dude and his ex-wife are divorced. He has custody of the son, she has custody of the daughter. On the day of the murder, he asked his ex if he could look after the daughter for the day. So it's not that he went to the ex and asked her to take the daughter in some nonsensical effort to "spare her." It was the opposite. Daughter wasn't even under his care, but he went and got her from her mom so that he could kill both children together. THAT'S the story.

Don't forget about the first responders that are called when things like this happen. I was dating a woman and her sister was married to a firefighter and had a couple of kids. Sometimes he'd have to go to a call where the kids didn't make and didn't make it in the worst kinds of ways. He'd call her in the middle of the night sometimes, asking if their sleeping kids were okay. She could hear it in his voice and knew he was having a very... very bad night.

When my parents got divorced, my uncles forced me and my siblings to stay with our dad so our mom could start a new life. Our dad was a cheater and dead beat. We begged our mom not to leave us. unfortunately, it’s not uncommon for chinese children to be cast aside. if you look up the sun village orphanages, an amazing woman began taking in children of convicts. most of their own family members wont take in the children because of the “shame” and judgement. the children are also not adoptable because their parents are in jail. there’s a documentary about it, very sad.

Coincidentally, I was just watching a documentary about children with parents on death row in China the other day. They are shunned from society and not allowed to be adopted. Not sure if it’s still true because the documentary seems a little old. This old lady who used to be a prison guard opened orphanages to take these kids in. These kids are abandoned by their relatives sometimes due to financial difficulties and other times due to shame. It’s really sad to watch.

Was playing a game (Gears of war, probably at the time) when i heard a thump, surprised i could tell it wasnt a normal sound even with the balcony doors shut. It's so weird to not like kids ... choosing to not have kids or to choose to keep your distance as a preference, but flat out saying you don't like kids on the whole is weird. You were literally a kid at one point. It's so weird that grown adults feel comfortable saying they don't like children. Any other group eg the elderly, disabled, different racial backgrounds, men* woman... If you say you don't like them and you get judged harshly as a bigot...but kids? It was widely known as a horror story. 2) It is not uncommon after divorce among traditional/poor people for the argument to be "Who gets stuck with the kids?". I have family where the mother cut all contact, as she cannot get another man. However, it is also not uncommon for families to be kept by the father/mother and fought over, or split between parents. 3) The relationship between parents in China and kids are very invested. As they can only have one kid, and as China is one of the most expensive places to raise a kid, people will only have 1-2 kids max. More than that is for millionaires or richer. However, the relationship between parents and kids can be poor, as both parents work, so the grandparents or the nanny raise the kid, with the parents just being there are dinner time and weekends. But the Chinese love their kids, and deeply invest into them. 4) As kids are expensive, with him having kids and being required to pay for their costs if the ex-wife asks, they may struggle to live a life of luxury with rising rent and massive schooling fees. This is one evil way to solve this problem.

@@GK222_ Yes, but these services are heavily underfunded. Out of China adoptions have been reduced heavily (they see it as embarrassing/"loss of face") to ask the West to adopt their kids. Firstly, abortion in China is widespread, as is condoms and Plan B, and easy to access (pill is heavily disliked; due to issues with quality management, there is a widespread fear that the pill will make you infertile). There is no stigma about it, although Buddhist beliefs in China state the ghost of the baby will hang about you, so no one is exactly proud of it nor discloses it. But this means there are not a lot of unwanted kids. Secondly, with 4 grandparents, and two parents, as well as the grandparents often having 6-7 siblings each, and they in turn have kids, I would estimate that 99% of kids can find a single family member to take them in. I imagine the idea of abandoning a child to be horrific to the Chinese, although this can extend only to their own family. This cold attitude is leaving China, as kids are so invested into, and the young in China are exposed to education and more positive ways of thinking.
