It’s a real comp. they went lighter and powered everything to still post a total so they can complete their Olympic qualification process but also not have to worry about it effecting their training cycle or worry about possible injuries from maximal loads.
@kenminleong4 жыл бұрын
Non weightlifter here, and would appreciate if anyone could explain why someone would do power snatches in competition? My understanding is that power snatches are harder than regular snatches because you'd need to pull the bar higher to get in a power position, which should mean you can probably lift more with a regular snatch. So my question would be why compete sub maximal weight? I'm sure i've seen it competed in bigger competitions before too. Cheeeeers
@lukastraining4 жыл бұрын
Indeed, you can lift more with a regular snatch. But they did not need and want to lift their maximal weights this competition, so they used the power variations. They need to compete in a several amount of competitions to qualify for the olympics. They probably did not want to risk injuries so that's why they did not lift maximal weights.

the weird thing about Tian is that all the weights seem the same weight to him and he behaves the same with them no matter how light or heavy. It's just a matter of him fucking up or not. He's the only person on Earth who can make a 5-10kg jump to a world record after two misses and make it look like an opener. His 230 and 231 c&js literally looked easier than his 220 openers.

Does anyone else find it insane that Shi did everything Tian did and MORE, except weighing upto 23 KILOS [~1-2 billion freedom units] less ?? Since he wasn't planning on lifting, and so left his gear in China, he *obviously* just does this fucking RAW. Probably doesn't even have to peak for International Comps, just walks around being able to throw around this weight.

i'm confused, i thought you had to catch below parallel in the squat? it looks like a lot of these are power clean/snatches?
@Hoehihoh4 жыл бұрын
No, for olympic weightlifting competitions you don't have to catch the bar in a squat, as long as you can stand it up. However, at the competitive level, people will usually squat because it allows them to lift more weight. It's different in Crossfit, if that's what you're thinking of, because there it's not just about who can lift the most weight but also who can do it for many reps. While the squat snatch or squat clean does allow you to lift more weight, it's also more taxing, therefore some Crossfit workouts require you to go below parallel because that's the intended stimulus. But usually, at least in recent years, you're allowed to power at least in the strength events in Crossfit.
@FrameForgeQuest4 жыл бұрын
No, in olympic weightlifting you DON'T HAVE TO catch the bar below parallel, nor do you have the obligation to squat below parallel if you catch it higher. There is no such a rule in weightlifting. But lifters usually catch below parallel because it lets you lift more weight (because it doesn't require you to be so explosive to pull the bar up such a long distance).
@FrameForgeQuest4 жыл бұрын
Shi Zhiyoung power cleaned 190 kg in the world championship this year and it was a good lift. There is no rule against it.
