A record-breaking rainstorm has been battering the southern parts of China since April 18. The powerful gusts and heavy rain have resulted in flooding and landslides in the region. More than 82,000 people have been evacuated, CCTV reports.

I was born in Guangzhou, the capital city of Guangdong province. Guangdong is in the subtropical area with plenty of rain and humidity. It has been like this for thousands of years. It’s hot and humid because it’s near the ocean and evaporates the water turning it into clouds and precipitation. This is why Guangzhou is nicknamed flower city, and has such a big variety of Lingnan fruits such as lychees, longan , star fruits, etc. Without rain, where do you get photosynthesis for fruits and vegetables. Guangdong is known for its amazing fruits and vegetables thanks to plenty of rain. Stop making a fuss out of this natural climate that Guangdong is used to for thousands of years. I see some comments claiming this a “karma”? Karma for what? It’s like saying Florida suffering torrential rains and hurricanes, or Japan and California suffering earthquakes right on the Ring of Fire as “karma”. Sure, then I guess you can say Japan and USA suffer way worse karma with the amount of tsunamis, earthquakes, hurricanes, tornadoes, droughts, floods, wild fires, volcanic eruptions, snow storms, etc. 🤣🤣🤣
