I have exact rifle …..same colored bolt, milled trigger guard 416 stamped but stamped polytech ATL Georgia and nothing stamped on other side of receiver. Bought at gun show in 1992-93. My buddy bought one from same guy who had hundreds of them but his wasn’t stamped polytech and bolt was polished finish and overall fit and finish wasn’t as good as mine so guess I was kinda lucky. Good video

Thank you! Sounds like you have one of the better SKS's like I have but was used for another special place besides the Security Police, or a factory overrun. Nice find! Congrats on owning one and still having it after all of these years!

My rifle looks like that too but no security force symbols on the right side. Mine was made in 1967 and stamped by Norinco and Poly tech ATL GA. Can’t quite make out the triangle factory ID. It seems to have been milled away but is faintly visible along with faintly visible type 56 characters.

These chinese SKSs are all great guns and work well. When I'm trying to make out faint marks on military rifles I'll use a magnifying glass and look at it in different lights....sunlight, bright LED or flashlight and shine it at different angles while looking thru magnifying glass and will often make out the markings. Whatever factory number is in the triangle they are made pretty well .

What is the third method of loading? Only two methods were demonstrated.
@ClassicGunReviews7 ай бұрын
Hi.. the 3 methods of loading are: 1. Use stripper clip inserted into top of bolt carrier 2. Push each round one at a time into the internal magazine from the top. 3. Turn gun upside down, pull lever back to open bottom of magazine, and drop 10 rounds in facing forward then close bottom of magazine.

I have a (26) type 56 Chinese Sks and I’m a bit confused. All numbers are matching except the stock. The stock looks original but it doesn’t have any numbers on the butt stock. It does have a very small Chinese symbol on the bottom of the stock right in front of the sling loop. Is this a replacement stock? Is this a police issued rifle? Or is this one that was manufactured with no number on the stock? Looking for answers
@ClassicGunReviews5 жыл бұрын
Hi and congrats on owning a Chinese SKS, they're all great. That's still good that it is all matching except for the stock. The police ones are very rare and unless it has the KFS import and police symbols it's not the Security Forces one. Military ones are nicer build than the later commercial ones, those are still good however. You can look up your rifle by noting the serial number how many millions it is, and the Symbol to the left of the serial number in a triangle or oblong, etc..is the factory where built. If you look up Yooper John SKS on google his website will come up and have info on dating your SKS and whether military or not and maybe estimate of year made and maybe import year .. if you reply back here with the Factory number and serial with last two digits XX no need to post the whole serial number here. Also include all the writing on the left of receiver including importer name and city/state and did it come with bayonet?

The threaded hole in the magazine is probably for reducing the capacity of it. In Canada there is a 5 round limit, and I've seen bolts placed right there in the magazine screwed in and welded in place to only allow 5 rounds to be inserted.

Great info, thanks! Yeah, I wasn't sure what it was for, maybe drainage but then mud or something can get in, the block makes sense.

Great video; beautiful SKS! Seems like mine started out intended for the security forces, but didn't finish its production that way, as there is no stamp on the right side of the receiver to that effect. Otherwise, it checks all the boxes. She's a beauty - lovely stock, /416\ code, gray parkerized bolt group, all milled, all numbers matching (even the firing pin), very smooth 4-5 lb. trigger. I guess part of the mystique of these rifles is the unsolvable mystery surrounding their actual origin and history. The Chinese folks just ain't sayin'!

@@ClassicGunReviews My first trip to the range with it, after I got used to shooting it, I got some 3" to 3.5" groups at 100 yds. About that drilled and threaded hole in the bottom of your magazine - it could be that your SKS arrived here via Canada (or was headed there). I've noticed in some Canadian videos on SKS' that there's a little round attachment right in that place, which is where they put the pin to limit the mag to 5 rounds. You can see it in this video at 2.27. kzbin.info/www/bejne/iGm2oIqmp8aFo7c

I need some help. So I have one and it has [144] and the serial ends in 1140 but it doesn’t have the little triangle that yours has. I’ve been trying to find out what year it was made. (I just wanna know)
@ClassicGunReviews3 жыл бұрын
On chinese sks rifles there isn't a reliable way to tell the year exactly but you can get an era or close.. I"d need a lot more info in order to estimate when it was made. so here are my questions: How high does the serial number go? 1million, 2 million? etc. Is the trigger guard milled or stamped? Is the front Gas port mount milled or stamped? Is the barrel have the pinned barrel or the short or long trunnion? Does the bolt have the cutout? If you're not familiar with these things, the you can check the SKS info websites they show pictures of these things on which you have. Yooper John is one of the best sites, you can google Yooper John Chinese SKS.

it's the same stock length compare to every variation across the different country. not short for asian physiology. its so because especially in the northern region people would be wear thick coats and stock length compensate for it. a compromise.

@ClassicGunReviews Жыл бұрын
I have heard that before and I know of SKS in Canada has that.. but this one is original and importer directly to the US from China before the ban.. so I think it had a different purpose like a drain hole so water doesn't stay in there and rust it is my theory. I can't remember what I said about it in the video! lol

The barrel is pinned.
@ClassicGunReviews5 жыл бұрын
Hi, yes the barrel is pinned. They started doing this in China around 1966.. however so many factories made the SKS dating production dates is extremely difficult even if it is the better documented factory 26. This is factory 416 and has many milled instead of stamped parts. However because it's a military triangle factory number I've narrowed it down to 1973-74 time frame. It was imported in 1987 only by KFS. USA doesn't allow firearm imports from China since 1994 so all these guns are going to become rarer as time goes on. Thanks for the comment and for watching!

hi... how did you get that year? did you add 18 to 1955? That only works for Factory 26 rifles. For all other SKS factories there aren't any records that we can access if they even exist to find out the year it was produced other than by the features: type of barrel attachment, rear sling location, stamped vs milled parts, lightening cut in bolt carrier etc.. if you look at Yooper Johns sight he goes over everything.. www.yooperj.com/SKS-24.htm

@@ClassicGunReviews no man. I did my due diligence and provided you with all the information you required to confirm that it’s a 1973. And yea I realize that it’s not a /26\ and that we do not add 18 to 1955. Weirdly coincidental for it to actually work. But the formula is non applicable to your 1 million, 800 thousand series. If we were to go according to formula, we would only be in the single millions so it would be 1955+1 which again would make zero sense. I thought that you deleted my reply because I mentioned that I helped a kid date his the morning after i dated yours. Also a 1973, with almost the same sn as yours. In the 1.8 million range. Just like yours.
