Well before the Chinese subs picked anything up a British Astute picked them both up shadowed them and guided an anti sub ship and helicopter in to scare them off. The Chinese made out that they deliberately let the subs be found to show how they can get close. Behind the scenes intelligence showed that Xi was going bananas as these subs were supposed to be undetectable, yet they didn't realise they'd been getting shadowed for a couple of days by an Astute. When did the west threaten an unprovoked attack on a neighbouring country like the Russians in Ukraine or what Xi keeps threatening Taiwan with? Neither has any claim on these countries but still they persist, nor does China have claim over the China Sea. You also forget, like most of the world, that Russia and China are not countries but empires, but for some reason, nobody, especially these woke idiots, seems to point that out. Ask the Uyghurs or Tibetans or even the Caucasian peoples if they want to be violently oppressed.

Us Brits have a long history of operating in the East. China still remembers the Opium Wars (where we shelled Chinese coastal cities until the Emperor let us export opium from India to China without interference). India remembers two centuries of subjugation. Nothing for us to be proud of, I agree, but it was hilarious to suggest that the East is not a traditional sphere of operation. BTW, the suggestion is that West Taiwan is likely to collapse within the next decade thanks to internal problems.
