I saw many people comments " your wife (Chinese) and Mizo were look similar. I'll add a few line of Mizo history( safe to say zo people, because the name of Mizo came up only during early 19 th century), even though theres no written history or document, it is believed that the zo people came from Shinlung or Chhinlungsan located on the banks of the river Yalung in China. They first settled in the Shan State and moved on to Kabaw Valley to Khampat and then to the Chin Hills in the middle of the 16th century. The first tribe who migrated are settled in Manipur state( popularly known as Kuki), some of them migrated further to Chittagong hills of Bangladesh, during the second wave of migration Mizo people settled in Mizoram and jampui hills of Tripura state, a large number of people didn't migrated and settled permanently in Burma - kachin state (kachin tribe), chin state, and northern most part of arakan state Ps; Mizo is not a tribe, it's like an umbrella of all the tribe belonging to zo descendents
@CurryandDumpling4 жыл бұрын
Oh wow, thanks for this informative comment. Really helps us understand the history of the zo people. Thank you for taking the time and commenting. 🙌🏼
@bohan53 жыл бұрын
Sangtea, it was very delightful to read your notes on the history of Zo people. Through reading I know the languages of Karen, Mizo-Kuki-Chin and Naga are related, but did not have any specific information of how the people who speak these languages are related. Your account of the history makes a lot of sense. Thanks for sharing that knowledge. If you know any written account of the relationship of these people, could you please share with the reader here?

This particular "Chheih lam" you're viewing is actually a modernized version and is quite different from the traditional one. Youths sit in a circle and usually one male starts dancing and pulls up a female partner. Their dance is like a form of courtship. In the olden days, it was usually performed to celebrate good harvest and was more of a form of enjoyment than performance. There may be a few inaccuracies but that's about the gist of it.

I'm also mizo, Music and dance are important elements in Mizo cultural life, with many festivities associated with the Christian holidays. Other celebrations, however, are centred on significant phases of the agricultural cycle. The mim kut, for instance, is held in August or September, after the first harvest of the year; it is intended both to give thanks and to honour deceased relatives. The pawl kut is also a harvest festival, which takes place in December or January. Among shifting agriculturalists, the chapchar kut is held at the start of the agricultural year, after the forest has been felled and before the burning of the new fields begins-usually sometime in March. Love from Mizoram , If thank you😊

Its like what Mizo warriors do when they kill and bring home animals and all of the villagers gathered to see what they killed.Same thing with how they kill and bring home the heads of their enemy.
